    I am an attacker

I'm an overwhelming kicker, I am known in my school to have a machine gun roundhouse, I like to go on the offensive because I have the control when I go on the offensive, I decide when I strike. My kicks hit with part of my foot, my ankle, and my shin, and I try to jack up the defending arm first, make it numb, then go for body/headshots.

In Muay Thai I was definitely more of an attacker. I liked to go straight for some tough leg kicks to soften up their defense enough to eventually be able to squeeze in the devastating knees and elbows. Now that I’m transitioning to western boxing I’m learning that I tend to be a little bit of both. Counter punching is currently looking like my bread and butter since I love the feeling of seeing that leather glove flying at my face only to avoid it at the last second, have the hand go over my shoulder and follow up with a killer cross. However I still like to go in close and use my pretty strong punching power to soften guys up with shots to the ribs, kidneys, and solar plexus and then transition to their head more and more as the fight goes on. I don’t know – I’d say right now I’m more defensive than anything but when I go in for the attack I do my best to keep the pressure coming and make them work to defend my hits. Even if they block it I do my damnedest to make sure it still hurts him because sooner or later his body is gonna make him drop that arm from having had it be abused so much and that’s when you let loose with a serious haymaker. I tend to prefer infighting just because of less reliance on footwork (something I've never enjoyed).

    I'm a defender.
    I think it's more practical.

I voted a bit of both, because that's the most flexible approach, but if one does need to fight, it is much better to be on the offensive than the defensive, most especially if you are facing multiple opponents.

I call this the 'tactical' approach: pick the biggest, toughest guy, the leader, and smash him into the ground quick and decisive. Usually the lesser men (or women) will change their minds about wanting to fight you, then.

It depends on the situation, though. One-on-one, in a sport fight, or a duel, if there is no chance of outside interference from another enemy, then you can of course take a more 'strategic' approach.

Time is always a factor in fighting: timing of moves, time before the situation potentially escalates, etc.

I often think of being ganged up on by multiple people. And the strategy I have in my head is the same as yours. Hit the confident one really really hard and loud, and move through him. Hopefully I can then run.

Running is always an option. :)

If people are attacking you in a group, it means they aren't interested in fighting fair. That means at least one probably has a knife or some sort of weapon. I'm confident in my karate, but I'd also rather not get stabbed. Running is also good exercise :)

I run 3K (three kilometers) four or five times a week for exercise. I also do the 40-yard dash (timed).

But of course, running away from a fight can lead to other troubles, especially if they give chase, or decide to look out to get you another time in another place.

Sometimes, fighting is the right option.

Sometimes. If its one on one then I will go for incapacitation. But if I where attacked by a group it would most likely just be a group of homophobes looking for a target. I don't make any enemies otherwise.

    I actually have no idea.

I'm way too early in the stages of training to know, but thus far my interests have been leaning towards joint locks, throws, and Evasion. I never knew how effective they were until last monday when we were doing some drills and the assistant instructor went full-on Judo on me lol
