Update. The operation on Friday was successful (anterior bilateral total hip replacements, left side was revision surgery). I am now the proud owner of two artificial hips - I am yet to christen them, so let me know if you have good names for them. I spent the rest of Friday after the procedure sleeping, although at one point I nearly gave a heart attack to the nurse who was taking my blood pressure (she said I bolted upright, looked at her in the eyes and declared I had to go win the London marathon). Post-surgery rehab was intense, up to three times a day. I did enough to convince my physical therapist and chief surgeon that I could cope on my own, and I am now resting at home. The road to recovery starts now.
If I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times...OK...I've told you once...I'm from Sahrf Lahndahn geezah. "Pinky and Perky"?
Gotta be better than being a Yorkshireman though right? In the hierarchy of place of birth in the UK?
9 days post-surgery. Walking without crutches 90% of the time. Still limping like I did Rodeo on a cactus though.
Good luck with your recovery! However, if you need some extra help, you could always get one of these:
Update Fitness routine since the New Year has mostly been ballet, boxing and yoga. Getting stronger and more flexible all the time, although my splits are still a little way off yet. Currently I can hold myself up in the side split about 7-8" off the floor for several minutes without using my hands. Today was my first time back in the dojo since before the surgery. I opted to go back to karate (Kyokushin) instead of taekwondo because the former is closer and is open more times a week than the nearest do-jang (I will go back to tkd at some point in the future). Class was an hour and a half of baby steps - going through the pinan katas with the white belts because I was moving like a beginner student (even though I'm a 3rd Dan), very light pad work, zero sparring, and everything slowed right down. I definitely have a different mindset after the operation. Tonight's pace and focus on the basics would have frustrated me something crazy in the past. But I actually enjoyed the laid back nature and it didn't stress my new hips at all. Feels really goid to be kicking again.
