Feel free to check out our I Liq Chuan group, it’s a mix of several internal (Ba Gua and Xing Yi) and other styles, mostly martial orientated training with a lot of two person drills, cooperative and not.

If interested, send me a PM and I'll put you in touch with our group leader, training is free for the time being, usually once or twice a week for 2 hours each.

Interesting Embra, I trained with Chris for a while, but only the Hun Yuan stuff… He’s a good guy, but I found the training lacked the level of martial aspects I was looking for.

Don't know the Hun Yuan stuff - no idea what this is. I only know Chris's protege in Scotland Craig Wilson, and my exposure so far is pretty limited.

I did a few classes in Gao Baguazhang in France a few years ago. In Scotland we have something of a dearth of IMA beyond Wudang Taijiquan - where we have Ian Cameron and Dan Docherty's students to train with. There is some other TCC up here which may or not be martial - but I don't know, e.g. Bob Lowey, Ronnie Robinson and some Chen dudes

There was a fellow 'wee' Danny Docherty (not Dan Docherty) teaching Gao Baguazhang, but he stopped after severe illness.

Do you have any videos or anything that would give me a better idea of what I Liq Chuan is? I found a site on Google and some guy just sat there talking about meta physics and meta cognition.

Hmmmm. I've got a lot of stuff I want to check out (seriously, loads) so I'll see where I am then and might look into it. The grading and the syllabus seem interesting. :D

It's bit a while, so I'm boiling the kettle and slicing the cake.

Who's around? What are you working on? Had any big breakthroughs recently? Any ponderings that are vexing you?

    Pull up a chair!

Hi! I'd love a cup of tea! :)

I have just returned from an overseastrip to an awesome karate seminar. I traveled alone and got to visit our current honbu dojo four times and enjoy 4 days of training with 10 senior instructors.
It was really amazing, I made many friends. Everyone has been very welcoming and I made me feel a home. I also got many corrections and inspirations and I am very motivated an excited now.
    Here's a video from the event ^^

How about you? How is training and/or life going? :)

    Wow, that sounds awesome! :D

Truth be told, I've been very lazy over the last few months, really lacking motivation to train. In the last week, I'm suddenly ready for it again, but I've realised that I'm not as robust as I used to be (i did NOT consent to this "aging" malarky!) so I'm starting very slowly, doing lots of basic stuff to build myself back up.

I suppose this is a learning opportunity - looking at practice from a middle-age point of view, rather than a youngster :D

I have basically started over as well, focusing on Sun Style. But also learning a medical Qigong form from my wife who learned it in Beijing university of TCM

    I don't like it, how do i re-wind the years?! :(

I've found my focus now seems to be more on the health-aspects of neijia now, rather than necessarily the martial. I've dug out loads of my old notes, class video clips etc going back over things that I glossed over at the time in favour of more chop-socky practices. What a pillock I was

All I can say, as far as getting older goes.... as far as I know, it is better than the current alternative

I am also focusing more on Neijia, but I can't get the MA out of it no matter how hard I try. Still thinking about giving a very non-ima and try, but, unlike years ago, I find I am thinking more about injury since it seems to take MUCH longer to recover from them. And let's not get into the whole arthritis view of such things.

I regret my way of thinking, when I was younger, of thinking I know my body and injuries better than my doctor. Thereby returning to training way to soon...and yes, I am the guy who just HAD to figure out how to throw a kick, on crutches, after I broke my ankle...

Not tai chi I'm afraid (my teacher isn't teaching me his wu tai chi any time soon) but Bagua wise I am working on integrating the throws and locks into my grappling sparring.

Xingyi wise I am doing likewise with my stand up sparring.

I'm also working on changing my Kali stick sparring to reflect how we use the Dao in bagua, and I'm getting some interesting results in sparring.

More specifically I am working on adding in shoulder and head strikes into my clinch sparring and pushing hands, and trying to increase my ability to use listening and friction in my pushing and general sparring.
