Why i want MMA gloves or at least not the big boxing gloves, its more true to fighting bare-knuckled, but this is by far not a new thing for me, i have always done pad work bare-knuckled. I hurt my elbows more than my hands, funnily enough.

I heard the gloves refered to as 4 ounce gloves, but as i dont use imperial measurements it was confusing until i googled it and it came up with MMA styled ones. :p (expanding on above request, can i get refred to one which is on the begginers side of padding, so not nessisarily 4 ounces, but defo not close to boxing gloves.)

Why are you planning on fighting bare handed?

For hand wraps look here The Hand Wrap Thread

Mma gloves are for fighting in, not bag work, you just need standard bag gloves or boxing gloves for bag work.

you dont get to put on gloves if you defend yourself, its kind of a train as you fight thing. Or a meme answer #Thuglyfe :p

I dont overly want to practice in soemthing which changes the dynamic of punching too much, i use my punching bag to practice technique on as much as i use it as a fitness instrument in itself. That and i need soemthing i can do slaps in and can operate a water bottle with and a door handle with and dont need help getting off easily. XP Does that make any sense for a explination?

You'll hurt your hand and wrist badly, especially if your doing so unwrapped, there's a place for MMA glove pad work, but it's after a lot of heavier padded bag work first.

I predict you'll ignore all the advice on here, do it anyway, hurt yourself anyway, and maybe post about it afterwards.

Nope, i may ignore the advice about the thicker gloves first though and hurt myself. :p I'm going to try wrapping next time and am looking on the thread simon linked.

Edit: All ready deciced and i am leaning towards getting open handed gloves on the 5-6 ounce padding weight. If such things exist, i havent actually brought any gloves.

Edit2: I think i have hand wraps here, if not some need to be brought.

    Wrong on every single count.

Punch incorrectly and you get a boxer's fracture. It's as simple as that.

There is a reason many that teach self defence don't actually advocate punching due to the risk of hand damage.

I teach it, but I also don't fool myself that I should train without gloves to condition my hands.

Also you are hardly living the thug life if you can't even scramble an egg.

You don't change the dynamic of the punch. There is the correct technique and that's the end of it.

The slap and water bottle makes no sense at all.

I know that, i dont get taught to use my palms, so im stuck trying to make the best out of a bad situation. I honestly dont know if my go to fighting would be straight punching or hammer fists but last i remember its awkward for me to practice hammer fists on the heavy bag. (not that i have tried that heavily recently in learning Hammerfists)

I can scramble them, just not cook them after scrambling them. :p (I also dont wear my trousers around my ankles.)

Somone may need to fill me in on glove design, i don't know how much dexterity you get from standard gloves.

For punching, i dont know if i have correct punching technique or not, i haven't overtly damaged my hand/wrist yet doing the bag or pad work in general. (yes i know the flaw with "been doing X for Z amount of time with no problem" as a argument, doesn't make it right or safe)

If your taking lessons, the best thing to practise would be what you've been taught, adding on things that you don't know, generally will only get you hurt, hammerfest are a very limited technique, so unless you training mma grounded striking somewhere, best leave it alone.

    Wrong.

    You've done how many lessons?

You haven't used open handed strikes yet is a more accurate description.

    Wrong again.

    Firstly you aren't stuck.

    Thousands of clubs out there.

Secondly you don't have enough understanding of the art to know if you are in a bad situation.

Thirdly the situation is yours to deal with.

If you want to remain and learn then do so.

If you want to leave then do so.

That's because you don't have any technique, or even understanding.

Guess what. It comes from training.

Days turn into weeks, weeks into months and months into years.

I can answer that without even seeing you punch.

Are you getting a picture emerge here?

Stop posting like you are at the halfway mark, admit you are a raw beginner, enjoy the journey and stop posting crap.

Bag gloves are different to boxing gloves, and are designed for bagwork, so will likely be more durable than MMA gloves for that use.

You can see an example here.

You need gloves at least, and maybe wraps too, if you are going to do much on a properly heavy bag.

You will indeed learn open hand strikes in TKD, sonbadak amongst others :)

In classical TKD technique we deliver turning kicks with the ball of the foot, reverse turning kicks with the heel. In sparring the ankle will usually be straightened and you strike with the instep, as you're wearing pads and it gives you a little extra range.

    Mitch

Edit to add: Quick video of somebody breaking with ball of foot turning kick for illustration. :)

    Fair advice.

My logic with the Hammerfists is that i will probably go to close fists and get taught to do blocks with closed fists.

About 6-7months of TKD combined and i have only learnt straight punching in that time, thus thats the only thing i have been taught how to do and thus best to train with. (Fairbairns palm strike to the chin is easy enough to understand and practice from his book(s)) So im making the best out of a bad situation which is, they don't teach me palm strike as a comabtive first and i have to try and either learn it myself or practice to get the punching "safeish".

I personally can only access TKD reliably.

I either know how to punch or not and i cannot judge said thing by myself as i cant pick up on the finer details in punching etc. I am working on my understanding of punching. (fighting in general as well)

i all ready know i am a beginner, but that doesn't invalidate any of my arguments/opinions by default. You can be wrong no matter how much experience you have in something. You have to prove to said beginner that the point you are making is correct. it does both parties good, you get to question if it is right by revisiting it and you teach said begginer it.

The crap part is subjective really. I am blunt in my wording, its not meant to portray any sign of arrogance.

I will be changing the glove of choice on my list then to get some good bag/boxing gloves. I misunderstood the point. (back onto those 7 ounce ones that were suggested. :p)

    Yes it does.

You say that in 7 months of training you've only done straight line punches.

In 7 months you should have font, side, hook, back and turning kicks in your arsenal.

You may not have them down, but you can't tell me that all you've done is some straight line punches.

How many hours of TKD classeshave you been training?

If it's six months of one hour class a week, thats only 28 hours, that's not even a full working week.

Appeal to authority fallacy if you say you know X point because you have so much experience behind your belt. (and say thats why the point is right) Experience as an argument is worthless and flawed.

What is a Hook kick? I have done front side and spinning. Back i have done but i havent done it with the new TKD school i went to and cant do it, so for all purposes i havent done it. I thought you where citing hand techniques only.

I did it twice a week for a bit. i cant tell you hours.
