Well, everyeone asked for it, so I'll get it going. This is a video before the genbukan or jinenkan and has all three x-kans together from the 70s. Its showy and theatrical in some parts, but I like it anyway.

    good things
Hatsumi Sensei, Tanemura Sensei, Manaka Sensei, Ishizuka Sensei, etc
    time before politics, etc

Looking forward to some more examples.

I'm going to make the same request for this thread that I made in the 'Bad Videos' thread - if you post a video please state why the stuff being shown is good. Spammy, off topic videos, videos with no commentary and nasty, bitchy replies will be deleted and may get the poster a ban. Thank you for your co-operation with this.

The movements in this video IMO demonstrate good kamae, body structure, distance, weapon handling... I think it's a good representation of our art.

Big Will, do you happen to have any footage with some "stronger" attacks? Kacem moves well, looks good, no doubt, and I understand that he was teaching. However, I failed to see any attacks that I'd call realistic, or even particularly threatening. No disrespect intended or implied, but I'd love to see Kacem doing some "free movement" against an uke who's really trying to tag him.

    - Thanks, Terry

This is good, in my opinion, from several levels...some of the kamae, angling and defenses were a little "raggety", what would be expected from impromptu attacks outside on uneven ground. The attacks, mostly, looked authentic, some of the grappling attacks were just grabs with no followup, but overall had the sense of real attacks. As pointed out, a little theatrical, but very enjoyable. I'll pass on banging my forehead into the wall, however. :)

    - Thanks, Terry

no, its all demo........we have no idea what to do when were not doing kata

As I said in another thread, Tanemura Sensei does not really advocate what he calls "freedom style", greatly expanded on after the death of Takamatsu Sensei, according to him, although I never saw Takamatsu demoing any "free form" in the Takamatsu DVD, it was mostly kata and waza, but who can tell from a just a short video. You know also I would say maybe even one of the reasons for schools like Genbukan and Jinenkan. I think its just a different type of training where say Tanemura Sensei focuses more on basics kihon, waza, kata, etc, Hatsumi Sensei left that along time ago as his philosophy in training, so I would say different outlook for sure there.

As I stated, do whatever attack you like it can be more than adequately handled freely by most Genbukan Dojo-Cho and Soke, its just not really focused on or encouraged by our system similar to Koryu, but I can't speak for all Koryu as I have no idea, I can only speak in regards to my experiences in Genbukan. I can say overall its not our primary method or vehicle for training, not to say that it doesn't exist, but more so would be classified in our Goshinjutsu section of training.

Since you asked though, I believe there are some by Soke here, fairly unscripted goshinjutsu and thats why I think they are good, plus the uke's make some god awful funny faces and sounds :)

Playing devil's advocate here also do you have any bujinkan performing traditional kata other than mish mosh of the actual pattern? ;)

PS we need more posting of videos besides me and Will here and less armchairing. Come on, if you believe a video to be good post it and don't be afraid of what someone will say. Ironically there were an endless supply in the bad video thread.

Here's a good video where Hatsumi sensei dispels some of the myths about ninjutsu and explains what makimono are for(interesting he mentions that they are also a kind of thing you receive when you graduate-so perhaps those who think there is no way to tell if a teacher has the goods might want to take note).

Surprised nobody posted this oldie but goodie. It is good because it shows things being practiced in a much faster way than most see these days with many of the Shihan and Hatsumi sensei when they were much younger. Things were rawer and you don't see any overweight foreigners walking around pompously. Also, you get to see the sakki test administered the way it should be!

ps-that Genbukan guy with the afro in the self defense videos still around? He likes tapping.

Okay, I know it's not really ninjutsu but they have good skills and make an entertaining clip as a parody and the comic touch at the end is:cool:

    Just found this video.

I was in two minds about which thread to post it in tbh. On the whole I like it though.

There are a few larpy moments, but that maybe because of the snapshot being only part of an explanation...

There are some good movemts shown too. Not much kata displayed.

Good production although this trailer seems to focus on flashy looking stuff which is a shame. The first thing demonstrated is not too great but just looks like a mistake which he recovers from.

Some entertaining demos by others too. Some good ukes, some not so good.

I would contend, the mindset of the thread is not an argument. Would it be fair to state that if you post a video, you believe to be good and you state why you like it... that should suffice rather than turning this into a justification thread.

It would be nice, to have a thread of positive.

Yes, that is what this will be from this point. Otherwise your post will be removed.
This thread had a very positive start. Opinions are what they are, if you see value in a video and can fulfill what Frodo had said, post your whys then thats good enough. Feel decent about putting it here.
Not trying to escape there may be vids that mabye are not really all that good, trying to escape all the sniping. But with hope, this thread can be filled with excellent videos and not argument. It may promote more people to post videos if they don't believe they will have to justify why they like it.

I'll screen out the negative soon.

Good demo of some basics from Togakure ryu (the whole vid, the trailer is rather bitty).

Also some interesting variation to how the Bujinkan (Quest) Togakure Ryu vid shows the same techniques.

So have I got this right.
You can post any old rubbish on here and nobody is permitted to point out just what a load of old rubbish it is?

Well that should make for a stimulating discussion.

Well you know how it goes in this art. Half the people say someone is fantastic and the other half say they're terrible for the same reasons the first person said they were fantastic. Someone posts a video they think is a good example of the art and someone else posts the same video because they think it's a poor example of the art. It's pretty bizarre.

This is easily addressed: post the same video under the "bad" thread and give your reasons. I've done this already, so for critical analysis, go to the "bad videos", for "good vibrations" come here.
