typical labout move, ban something which gives them a lot of pr but is rarley used or even convinient to use in crime, rl aint like highlander where you can hide a sword in your coat with no one noticing, and its not like you can hide on in you back pocket..Uk is getting worse week by week

they are stopping short of taking real swords off MA practitioners so where's the beef?

Their definition of what a real sword is.

Not to mention the guidelines as to who is exempt and how this is to be proven. The government only referred to the BKA and Token society.

What of Toyama-ryu batto-do, aikido, koryu bujutsu and other systems in that fall outside of that bracket that sometimes use shinken or iaito?

    Do you understand now?

Not to mention is it the tip of the iceberg where next it's western sword practioners, chinese MA practicioners or even sports fencers and don't say it can't happen because it did for pistol shooting.

i was an avid pistol shooter and a good shot with a 22 and 38.

when the ban came in we all had to see the pistols handed in to the police with a settlement figure for compensation.

we moved onto rifles and black powder pistol instead, we all feared that they too would be banned at it was the tip of the iceburg.

when you say 'look what it did for pistol shooting' you are correct in that it stopped all competition in the UK, all our olympic shooters moved to the EU countries to practice.

But you are incorrect in saying that there was more to the pistol ban when there wasnt, it was just pistols.

I happily fire my father 7.62 US Army sniper rifle at Bisley ranges, i moved on and accepted that sometimes you are shafted out of one hobby but it opens up others.

    its the UK, meh

Well maybe we're just a little more dedicated to our arts than you are. I won't be handing in my swords that's for damn sure.

ha ha, you think a petition will do anything?

you honestly think we didnt think of that? we had hundreds of thousands on there for not banning pistols but the government banned it regardless.

accept it and move on, petitions are futile when it comes to law making.

How can you gather my commitment to my MA from this thread? Such a weird little addition you had there

you will be handing in your sword when the ban comes along as you wont like a criminal record will you?

You will grumble, mutter under your breath and curse the government yet you will do their bidding like a good citizen and probably vote them back in power

Don't care about the record, will be getting one anyway when the ID cards come in because I sure as hell won't be carrying one of them.

The pistol guys had one major thing going against them.

    Dunblane!

Hopefully we'll never see the likes of that again, with any weapon, but it must have had a major impact on how things went. Thankfully the stats for sword deaths are nothing so horrific as that.

    No to ID cards
No to a central NHS database
    No to a sword ban
    No to the european treaty
No more wars on the basis of lies and deceit
    No more stealth taxes
No more corruption in party funding
... how about we just vote out this govt. Solves all of the above in a stroke.

ever heard of a knee jerk reaction?
labour used this as a big handle to win votes to get them into power, 'vote for us and we'll ban pistols'

in short, how many people are killed after the pistol ban? ;)
alot more than when pistols were legalised thats for sure.

we read of people getting into arguments, going home and picking thier samurai sword off the mantle piece and going on a hack and slash.

they are small in number but the press eat it up and sensationalises it, i'm just sad to see another hobby/MA be knocked on the head as a result.

I wouldn't soil my hands or my brain with the sun. Its not even fit for use as toilet paper ... even for a hamster - the hamster would complain you were insulting his intelligence.

No handing in of anything, sorry. Just like I didn't hand the section 18 stuff either... ;)

    Er, no once again.

I used to shoot a Glock21 and to be honest, handgun shooting once a ban was in place would've been difficult. Practicing JSA won't be. It will continue whatever happens.
