    Hello all!

I've just started at a kickboxing club, which is great, and an awesome workout!

I'm from a WTF taekwondo background, so am used to switching feet / stance, and working both sides of my body, however my KB class tend to keep stances fairly boxing-style, one dominant side.

Has anyone from a TKD background been able to implement a more flexible stance/s into your KB training, switching from left to right stances for both punching and kicking?

I hope this makes sense :)

You can, mostly for kicking combinations to begin with, as its hard to be better with your hands on your weak side, then your opponent is on their strong side. get your fundamentals down first, (this means at a competative level) then add in skip steps etc afterwards.

Alot of Taekwondo practicioners transition well into light continous Kickboxing competition formats as the styles can be fairly similar. So using your leg switching at an advanced level shouldn't be a problem.

I would say however that you should work with the basics for now as there is going to be some fundemental differences in both scoring, guarding, and techniques you're more likely to use.

Once you get the fundamentals down, and you can fight that way, that's when you can dabble in the more fancy footwork. Alternatively, get your guard sorted and in sparring just give it a go. Sparring is the best way to expose your shortcomings.

Recently started KB again and our association brings in southpaw stance early on. 2 belt in fact.

I find that if you are keen to mix the stance if you get parts when freestyle/shadow boxing are allowed do it. Mix it up.

From your background you should find it relatively easy to get.
