Steven Seagal does not even teach proper Aikdo:eek::eek: He teaches the rougher and more gritty Aikdo.

Steven Seagal today is not man he was in his prime.

And just what makes the former "proper" as opposed to the latter?

    Milder training?

Of course he does, he is a bona-fide deity so he his Aiki will be superior, well according to the Dali Lama anyway......

I loved his earlier movies (out for Justice is one of my all time favourites) but the man seems to get weirder every time I hear his name in the media/forums ect.

When Ueshiba was an old man who was emphasizing positive values, peace, love and harmony. The lack of emphasis on atemi grew out.

In past Aikdo on atemi and more rough.

Steven Seagal more rough and more striking than most Aikdo schools.

Seagal is as rough as a twinkie and as strikeriffic as a Bozo the clown bop bag.

Well I would not want Steven Seaga to put a wrist lock on me. If you got him mad he properly go full force really fast and you have broken wrist.

I think his best technique is messing his drawers after he's gone unconscious.

Also Steven Seagal was from Lansing, Michigan and is now living in Los Angeles. So I guess he has two dojo one Lansing,Michigan and other in Los Angeles. Not sure what he calls it or where his school is at.

Well his movies they are really bad. He seems to be into the kung fu now. Not good kung fu movies but really bad kung fu that so unbelievable:dunno:

His older movies where better but extremely violent.

No true person taking Aikido should be that violent.

Aikido is non violent art or at least Ueshiba when he got older was emphasizing positive values, peace, love and harmony.

I'm sure at some point you'll get the difference between (Hollywood) movies, demonstrations and the "real thing" :p

Ah the old "Aikido is a non-violent art" argument.

Actually IMHO Aikido is an extremely violent martial art applied in a non-violent way. The techniques are effective and potentially very damaging only mitigated by the co-operation between Tori & Uke.

Chiba Sensei often used to say (to paraphrase) True compassion is having the ability to destroy; but choosing not to.

I don't think he ever claims to be an aikido representative in his movies, does he? The characters are usually "ex special forces navy seal commandos" or something.

Just because the founder toned down the training in his later years (not something unknown in the MA world) doesn't make the Aikido of those utilizing old school training any less a "proper" Aikido. Why would it? Did the founder ever decry the methods of his old students who still taught the old way?

That's a foolish guess, honestly. :google: Dude doesn't run any dojos, and hasn't for a long time. And I've never read that he is affiliated with a school in Michigan, though of course it's possible. The affiliated schools that I've heard of are in Missouri, Florida, New Mexico, and Anaheim, CA (not Los Angeles). When he made his first movie he had a school in Los Angeles, but he walked away from that one a long time ago.

Except for the opening scenes of one or two of his movies that are basically B Roll footage of him at his dojo doing jiyuwaza and randori.
