Steven Seagal... why does it seem everyone is so down on the guy?

Belltoller, it's not just you, it's all of us. We all have a higher metabolism through our mid twenties. This is why I promote a vegan diet high in plant foods that stimulates the metabolism. Steven has a young wife. I think she is Russian. Her metabolism is high. The problem for Steven is that he feels, like many other middle-aged men, that he can eat today as he ate when he was twenty. The result of that belief is the weeble wobble we see before us.

it seems like you're conflating a few different points into one.

does a vegan diet really stimulate the metabolism? i don't know. could you post some research on the topic?

i think there is a lot of evidence to suggest that eating a diet heavy on plants is good for humans. but there's nothing wrong with eating meat. it's a very efficient way to get protein. some humans eat large amounts of protein and are totally fine. i would say that the worst thing we as humans can eat is highly processed food, like flour, sugar (and syrups), and others.

but one could eat a completely vegan diet and still be obese. or one could eat chips all day and be skinny. portions matter more when it comes to a waistline.

There seems to be no evidence for this other than Gene Lebell himself confirming it true, which is a bit like me saying I've been to the moon and I can prove it by saying it happened.

Realistically, what other kinds of proof could we realistically expect?

None, therefore people shouldn't keep putting it up as fact, because it's just a something that may or may not have happened.

There is a lot of circumstantial evidence surrounding it - in of itself that means little, but it is significant that Gene (one of teh seniro stunt people) was no longer on set or involved in the film subsequent to said alleged incident

Personally if I was told Gene Lebell had choked out Godzilla I would not be too suprised, and being choked out by him is no disgrace at all...in fact it is on my bucket list

I really hope there isn't much of a following that think Seagal is a genuinely good guy.

afhuss, i'm arguing with a guy on youtube right now about this. luckily, about five people came to side with me and point out what a loser Seagal is. It seems none of his loyal fans, which probably amounts to ten or less, know of all the spousal abuse complaints or even how he made a name for himself in Aikido. I remember hearing news blurbs over the years reporting that police had come to his house regarding a complaint. He was abusive to his first wife and was certainly abusive towards Kelly. One thing I do not like is a man that is abusive towards women or children. They get no respect from me at all.

Honestly, if this guy wasn't such a cartoon character then we'd have nothing to talk about.

It comes down to a number of factor. Metabolism, genetics, epigenetics, how active you are and your diet to name a few. And to be honest, I don't think we have all the pieces of the puzzle yet.

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say here. All these animals have evolved to consume a highly specialised diet. Dogs and cats require a high protein diet to stay healthy. Their digestive systems can't extract all the nutrients they need from plants alone.

There was actually a story about a cat that had been fed a strict vegan diet. It nearly died from malnourishment.

Elephants and giraffes are specialised herbivorous. They have highly specialised digestive systems that have evolved to cope with their diets. And the Giant panda is so specialised it eats almost nothing other than bamboo. Herbivores spend most of their day eating or digesting what they've eaten. Giraffes will sometimes chew on bones. They are a rich source of phosphor (I think) that can be lacking in their diet. And elephants are known to "mine" salt from rock faces using their tusks. A herd will go back to the same mine for generations.

Humans on the other hand are omnivores. We can pick and choose what we eat and pretty much survive on what we find. Leaves, grains, roots, bone marrow, red meat, birds, fish, eggs and insects.

Red meat supposedly has cancer risks. Especially if it has been processed or cooked. White meat from birds and fish however does us no discernible harm at all. Unsurprisingly humans have always been coastal animals.

I don't know for sure if he ever hurt Fujitani Sensei, at least not at home. She was actually his senior at the dojo in japan (her father's dojo) which, consequently, saw a departure of Japanese students when he started teaching. He was known to injure his kohai at the dojo, though, not the most refined technique. An old teacher of mine was on Seagal's shodan testing board (well quasi-teacher, at least, not my regular).

Oh and the guy Seagal claimed was Ueshiba he saw teaching a demo at a sporting event in the US, I'm pretty sure was Kimeda Takeshi Sensei.

    Pictorial comedic literary device :dunno:

    You're English, aren't you?

NO sense of the absurd and unique deadpan delivery left in the country anymore?

Ah, Americanism - always leaves that sanitised, literal thinking where ever it takes over ;)

Nahh, just givin McGoo a friendly ribbing was all.

However, I did not know that regarding Elephants need for salt - which reminds me to put a salt block out for the many, many white-tail deer we have an overpopulation of around our house. They seem to be missing something from their diet...
