Should the spirit of modern Pangration be a stepping stone for professional MMA or just trying to be another Olympic sport bringing people together in peace and friendship to play sport? There is no way to simulate real fighting in a martial related sport with the safety issue as its priority. However, Pangration is the closest to reality and is open to all kinds of martial techniques. When you said MMA did you mean cage fighting? Pangration does not compete in a cage, and the rules are developed to meet the requirements of the Olympic committees.
Yes, although it is about as close as you can get in a competitive setting I think you will find that people are taking issue with the following statement Which is clearly not true when it isn't even as "real" as MMA I love the Dog Brothers, but even they make concessions and they are about as brutal as it gets [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0Zuj5jdY-k"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0Zuj5jdY-k[/ame] As an olympic sport I think "Pangration" is an easier sell than "MMA", but don't pretend it is anything it isn't. From what I see it is a multi-skilled competitive format - that should be enough. Don't over-egg your pudding
The lesson in history is that the sport of Pangration gave way to Gladiator games. The question is whether it can be a stepping stone to profession MMA or maybe there are some other meanings for participants?
How did pankration give way to gladiatorial games? They're two different civilizations. Am I misunderstanding something?
I've not personally done a gathering, but have fought in this format. It's intense but you can quit at any time. It's amazing what this body will absorb I believe Freeform is our only resident Dog Brother - he will offer far more insight than I can
i'm trying to deal with the fear that i have of competing in a bjj tournament--in a month! guys with sticks and skull paintings on their headgear...scary! yet, i'm eerily drawn to wanting to do it.
It's on my to do list! I've set it as one of my goals for my rehab. Get my fitness back, get well and then get the hell smacked out of me.
Okay, but when you say that pangration gave way to gladiatorial games, that suggests to me that the competitors, audience, sponsors, etc. of one switched over to the other. Where the spirit of the two is totally different. One is clearly sport. The other was an elaborate execution.
I think history suggested that there was a switch. This is why it is important to differentiate the spirit of pangration from the entertainment industry.
Pangration/Pankration WAS part of the entertainment industry. People were entertained by watching people compete in it. Like any sport.
