This is a good example of controlling the fall I think

Yeah - this is a smashed leg on hard floors - fine on mats I guess

Yep that's the kind of thing. As in deliberatley slapping the mat with your arms as your back/side hits the mat. Well in theory. Experience seems to suggest very few people I know get the timing right

"The only reasons for a slap i can sense, is so the teacher knows you are doing it right that or you did it by accident, because lets be real some things you cant help doing."

The former is possible, the latter nope its something I've been deliberately taught by more than one teacher. Possibly its exagerrated for beginners to make them keep it in mind and I haven't realised I'm meant to evolve beyond it though and not focus on the slap quite as much as I do.

The teacher would know if the students are doing it right, just by observing.
I'm certainly not the best example, but when I teach Ukemi, I tend to observe if the kids are doing it right and pay less attention to the sound; especially because some kids don't get the slapping right and are more petting it, no matter the timing.

I'm not entirely sure what exactly you mean by some things can't be helped.
If it's toward slapping the mats at the right moment with the arms in the right position - this is something people will learn with time.
That's why we have Ukemi in nearly every session, no matter how long we're training.

    Re ukemi on concrete

    A) ukemi is so you can throw people alot without breaking them
    B) it's better to counter throw, or roll out but it's not always possible.
    C) classic jujitsu also taught/teaches ukemi
    D) it's very likely (my own view) the main thing is not post and to tighten the shoulders /core properly and the slap is just a way to do this whilst limiting rotation.
    E)
