What are your views on shootfighting? I heard it is mostly submission wrestling and thai boxing. Can you guys enlighten me. There is a shootfighting gym in my area that i may like to go to in the future(in a few months) The teacher is John Busto and it is located in New York, USA (Bart Vale started up this school)
Not sure why you posted this in the Aikido forum...? But anyway, it depends on the instructor. A lot of people don't care much for Vale's methods as he often relies on strength. He also Trade marked the name "Shootfighting" which annoyed a lot of people... But yes basically you got it, Muay Thai and submission wrestling put together. Overall I'd say it is a fairly strong method, I didn't care much for a lot of the drills that I've seen, but I've only seen one of his instructors in action. Go there and see what they do, if it is what you want to do join them, its really that simple.
Yo. Levo, a member of this forum is a Shootfightin instructor, according to Yoda very very good. his gym is literally a 30 second walk from my Thai gym, but my love of striking drove to my current gym rather than a mixed grappling/striking gym. There is more emphasis on grappling, but it is said to be extrememly effective, a forerunner in todays MMA scene (i.e Team Chute box, who do shootfightin, produce great fighters such as Silva, and Rua)
Don't know Levo. Im looking to get into Shootfighting I'm Well verced in Submissons,Striking & Wrestling I hold Black Belts in Ju Jitsu & Arnis. I'm curently Living in West Seneca N.Y. & am looking for the closest School active in the Sport.
