Ya, some of the old "Church Fathers" of the first few hundred years A.D. interpreted quite a lot of Bible passages allegorically. That was their thing, and they were known for it. But Protestants don't have church history so they don't pay attention to the Church Fathers so they don't know how the Bible was treated back in the day. :dunno:
I've always found it very strange how so-called 'fundamentalist' Christians insist that every word in the bible is the LITERAL truth, despite the fact that the gospels are peppered with parables. If they can accept that a parable isn't LITERALLY true, then why can't they accept that many bible stories are themselves parables? (e.g. the Garden of Eden, the Fall from Grace, Noah and the flood, Jonah and the Whale, etc, etc.)
But it's the WOOOOOORDD OOOFFF GAAAWWWWDDD!!!! And God is the source of all truth. Therefore the Word, being his, is truth. It's the same kind of logic that goes "Old TV shows were in black and white, penguins are black and white, therefore penguins are old TV shows".
Not really. Now it's just about reframing the argument and make the big bang and evolution parts of creationism and intelligent design. Some like Lane Craig have been doing that for quite a while.
