Question for any Kuk Sool folk, or Hapkido folk that may check out both sub-forums.

Have any of you had experience in dealing with an aggressive, resisting opponent when trying to utilize techniques of this variety? And if so, how did the experience go?

Flexible weapons as self defense tools are intriguing, but the demo and practice application of such techniques seem like they take a level of compliance beyond what could be depended upon outside of that type of environment.

Good question, my answer is no never tried them without a compliant partner. However while in Korea I noticed that the police carry a length of rope on their shoulder. I assume that they are trained to use it under practical application. I do think they can be effective due to the speed and versatility in comparison to heavier bulky traditional weapons. I seldom drop the rope during training and it is easier for close in techniques.

Learned these like 2 years ago and hardly practice them because the most effective part of the techniques (the neck throws) are very natural for anybody with a yusul (judo/wrestling) background.... Just more leverage with a rope

And that rope on their shoulder: is that the one yellowish thing under the shoulder pad? I think it is decorative

I think for the most part it is decorative present time however 30 - 40 years ago it was part of their defensive tactics.
