Dear All Forum members i have tested my laptop temperature, my laptop average temperature is around 90°C. I try to keep laptop cool with laptop fan. its getting too hot, Any other suggestions how to fix this issue?
My guess would be that, perhaps, dust and whatnot are clogging up the fans. You could get a vacuum cleaner over the vents and see if that helps. This seemed to work for me when the back of my laptop would get excessively hot after about an hour's use...
What's the model of your laptop? What exactly is 90c? The motherboard? CPU? GPU? You can use either the free Speccy or HWMonitor to check those out. The best thing to do would be to make sure all fans are working, unscrewing the device and using a can of air to get rid of all dust inside, might even need to reapply thermal paste. Again this all depends on your model and age of the device. If you don't feel comfortable about doing it yourself go to a manufacturer's store or a general repair store.
Anything that obstructs the airflow from the vents will make your laptop run hot. Which includes you if it's sitting on your lap. So all the vents and fans have to be clear of dust and other obstructions. The next thing to do is make sure all your drivers are upto date. Which includes the motherboard, CPU and graphics. Beyond that very general advice. We need more detail. Make and model. OS you're running. The software you're running when it gets really hot. A web browser shouldn't cook your laptop. But some serious graphics rendering can.
my laptop is Dell Vostro 1550, 4 years old, the software showing gpu temp is 90c @ CrowZer0 my Friends also told me for cleaning inside the laptop, and change the laptop fan, i'll post again after change the laptop fan @Chimpcheng and @aikiwolfie Thanks for the replies
Is the GPU temp at 90c idle? Or during some gaming/rendering? Could be dust, thermal paste, failing fans or even a combination. Download the latest drivers for your GPU, is it Intel? AMD, Nvidia? Download something like MSI afterburner and ramp up your fan profiles, maybe even underclock the voltages slightly and stick the fan on 100% see if that lowers the temps. if it doesn't. Get rid of all dust (use a can of spray) you may need to open the laptop up (google this just to make sure parts and components aren't soldered on). If the GPU isn't soldered on get some good thermal paste and reapply. If you aren't confident in doing this take it to a repair store or contact Dell. Edit: Doing a quick search seems to indicate it's an Intel GPU so you should be seeing increased speeds in the CPU too. Can you physically also feel the heat? It could be a sensor issue.
