Ki aikido?

I had a friend who did aikido for years.
His instructor used Jedi like abilities, to make attackers simply go in the wrong direction and fall over almost without touching them - is that style ki aikido? (sp)

Does anyone here do that stuff?
His instructor once told him that as an opponent came towards him he could basically scramble their mind around which would make them lose control of themselves - he said he could if he wanted, jumble their mind around and actually throw it away - if he did that they would probably die.
Does any of that sound familiar, or was that instructor a one off?

Your friend may want to get his vision checked.
He may also want to have his IQ checked if he bought those funky old chesnuts about Jedi mind control.
Seriously. What is this? Thread troll week? :bang:

So answers to your questions... no... no... and no.

I'm really not trolling - just wondering if anyone here trains under an instructor like that or has any experience/knowledge of that kind of style

Right.. because Jedi mind scrambling instructors exist.

    it doesn't really work...
theres lot's of evidence that magic doesnt exist.

Check out the posts of a guy named Koyo.
He was a Glaswegian, hard as nails aikido master/instructor who said that aikido like all fighting was just hard work, blood sweat and tears and a lot of contact.

Yes, it sounds like the clip in post #3 of this thread.

    Either that, or Yellow Bamboo.

In other words -- if you actually believed him, then you need your head examined.

Right, you're not trolling, but you're asking us if Obewan Kenobi is a real person, and this after you (supposedly) have been doing martial arts ten years yourself. Uh-huh, right. Will you next ask how to build a lightsaber?

Just to give a serious answer in case this was a genuine question...

Things such as those described in the first post sadly do exist in a number of martial arts schools. Sadly, it's all either delusion or stage hypnosis - none of it is anywhere near reliable enough to actually use in a pressure situation because the pre-conditioning needed won't have happened with a random attacker.

As to the idea of being able to cast someone's mind away and probably kill them without contact, that's just absurd. The mind is a physical part of the brain, so to get rid of the mind you have to shut down the brain, which cannot be done without affecting it directly or damaging the vital systems which keep it going. Neither of these is possible without contact of some description.

In short, what was described to you was the worst kind of fakery in martial arts, as it makes people think they can bypass the physical aspects of getting good at self defence and makes them think they have abilities that don't exist.

Many years ago a Qi master from LA said that he could do that. I offered him $10,000 challenge if he could do that to me. He cancelled his workshop in Austin, Texas. I have never seen him since then. Please tell your friend's instructor that my money is still good today if he is willing to contact me in person.

If you're convinced that jedi powers can be gained through years of training to harness your qi, then I'm afraid this is not the forum you are looking for.

Can someone come up with an animation for Jedi/chi/ki tosh? - so that it can be dumped onto irrational posts spouting this kind of tripe?

To be honest I had my mind scrambled by my TKD instructor the other week and partially lost control of myself.
Although I think it was likely the spinning kick he hit me behind the ear with that had something to do with it rather than any mind tricks. :)

Telekinesis, of course, isn't real. Anyone who says otherwise is either deluded or lying.

There are two ways that nage can get uke on the ground without touching him: (1) trick him into unbalancing himself--though tricks like this only work once--or (2) throw a strike that forces uke to go down as an alternative to getting hit. I've seen both of these done. There is nothing telekinetic about either one, and neither is really a throw in application.

I always admired the fact that Watanabe would go out and do that stuff every year at the All Japan, just ignoring the laughs of the crowd.

OTOH, I was never quite sure just what it was he was trying to accomplish. ;)

Other than that, he was a very nice guy, although he'd only do that stuff on his personal students.

    Best,

    Talk about over-compliance in Aikido...

Ki Aikido does have some stuff that may 'blow your mind', or simply be ruined by some smartass physicist. Whether it is Ki or physics, who cares? Still works. But no, what you described is not Ki Aikido but, as others suggested, jedi force which I believe is looked down upon on MAP.. I'd hate to be Ki tested by that guy.

Huh? What? Are you saying you'd rather be ignorant and assume it's a mystical, magical force at work rather than find out how it ACTUALLY works?

Not only that, but it doesn't work for you if you don't understand it, and that means stripping away the mysticism.

No, not at all. I actually find it somewhat easier knowing the truth behind it but starting out, the whole 'mystical' approach was more simple and straight forward rather than getting into the science of being pushed over, and its what helped me to understand the technique/exercise before going into depth about how it actually works.
