Hello! I'm a Karate addict since 23 years by now. Deep background in Shotokan and, more recently, several years in a knockdown Karate school (similar to Kyokushin). Interested in Okinawa Karate too, especially Naha-te. I like to melt them in my rather personal way. I think about various ryuha as different paths to climb the same great mountain that is Karate... the more you ascend the more paths cross. Not so original metaphore indeed Besides, I have a modest experience in BJJ and I actually attend an MMA gym. Strenght and conditioning coach and co-instructor when it comes to the pure striking side (while, when it is grappling and transitions, I just keep quiet and follow...). Nice to meet you all.
Hi Mitch ^.^ We were under Tenryukai at the beginning, but later on our sensei preferred to run the dojo independently. Agree, it is very funny and sometimes... painful and exerting as much. I am grateful for this precious experience. I think Enshin is a good school that has developed very intelligent and smooth tactics especially in defence.
I study Goju ryu (剛柔流) karate in England. Go means hard, ju means soft, and ryu means style of so it roughly translates to hard and soft style karate. I am just a white belt, hopefully i'll be doing my first grading soon.
Hi am Cisco_lad, Isshinryu karate blue belt...working towards green. In my club we also do a fair bit of BJJ, Love it ! Oss ! Cisco lad
Not directly, but it is part of our graduation to drill escapes, subs as well as fight well on the ground. Cisco lad Link removed. This is getting tiresome. last warning, please read the TOS regarding advertising, otherwise you'll be viewed as an advertising spammer. I'm sure you're not doing it malisciously, but rules is rules.

Greetings all, I am a student of Goju-Ryu Karate, and have been a Member of Grove Martial Arts in Oxfordshire (England) for the past 3 years. regards, Travess
Hi all. I train Gojuryu Gojukensha in Melbourne, Australia. I've been training a little over 10 years I think. Over the years I've dabbled in a few other martial arts, but always had Goju as my staple.
I never bothered to check this thread before, so I'll tip in my two pence: I'm karatesloth, the deadliest tree-hugging martial mammal this side of a laptop :woo: I'm currently studying Wado-Ryu Karate-do with the Devon Wado-Ryu Karate-do Kai under Sensei Peter Hill (6th Dan) in the UK. He studied initially under the late T.Takamizawa Sensei (7th Dan) and has continued his training under M.Shiomitsu Sensei (9th Dan). At this precise moment I am a very happy white belt again. Due to transport and family I have to do most of my training at home so I'm training between 5 - 7 days a week consistently to try and keep my standard up. Before that I had spent a few years learning Goju-Ryu from an instructor local to me. While I won't say the time was wasted, it certainly wasn't brilliant. Thankfully, studying under him gave me the motivation I needed to figure out what I wanted from my training and to act on it. With him though I had only reached 6th Kyu - should have been going for 3rd but the gradings kept being changed on me. Came from an Aikido background before then and dabbled in Yang style Taijiquan (wanted to do more but circumstances changed).
My last check in is now out of date, so here's a more recent one. I'm currently a shodan in shorin ryu shidokan karate, I recieved my black belt from renshi Scott Rathbun (fifth Dan) and sensei Bethany Brousseau (fourth Dan). I currently train only under renshi scott, as sensei Bethany retired immediately after my grading. I am teaching children, and continue to learn just as eagerly as when I was a kyú grade.
Well this isn't my first check in. but figured I have to introduce myself here For those who don't know, I started here on MAP in 2006, after starting ju jitsu and some judo. After some severe injuries, I am allowed to train a stand up art, and I chose a karate club near where I live. I am now a student of goju ryu karate, and realising there is so much more to it than I ever thought my club is OGKK org, and I look forward to reading more here too Don't worry, I'm not about to get my mod hat on here unless it's necessary
