They are demo videos so can't judge everything from that - but I didnt see anything in those videos that even work a little bit without a compliant partner, pure fantasy The locks for example, look good, hurt lots, but as a girl just try putting one on a big bloke grabbing hold of you, not saying it can't be done, as it really can, I'm just saying it can't be done like this
Sure, but if it's a rapist, I may as well stab myself! Or if s/he just wants to kill me for nothin  Pls, give me example of what you consider useful for self-defense and I'll look it up where I live. P.S. Self-defense is not my only motivation. i actually like Japanese (traditional) martial arts.
You're right. Sensei, Zoran said himself it's very trick if opponent is much bigger that oneself. A half-blind guess (can't access yT) this is the instructor showing off some of his skillz. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPN_Lz3Qa-0"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPN_Lz3Qa-0[/ame] What would you recommend?
Not so much a style I'd recommend, as lots will have the same issues, it's more the way they train. You mentioned being a girl, so I'm guessing you're quite small, so you need to look for training that takes that into consideration, the trouble is they all say they do! You need to look at the training, is there good weight distribution, or is it just the lock that's supposed to magically work, is balance being taken, are strikes really going to have any impact? etc, hard to see as a beginner, as everyone will start with basics, but try to train with a more advanced person, if you could stop the technique from working, you can be damn sure your attacker will agree with Hannibal about knives, if you can just run - don't listen to anything the people on that video would tell you!
No chance of doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instead? You may get more out of BJJ from a self defense perspective than you would doing Jiu Jitsu, Aikido or Ninjutsu. That and either a bit of Boxing or Muay Thai to complement. And maybe a bit of FMA down the road. P.S. I'm a woman too. Here's hoping I don't get grilled.
BJJ or Judo are "default" choices on MAP for a reason [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJnyPLuHSIU"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJnyPLuHSIU[/ame] [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bA12qAz2E80"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bA12qAz2E80[/ame]
Grappling is a girls (especially a smaller girl) best friend, its all in the hips. And us ladies have plenty of that. *Insert Shikira here*

In all seriousness, regardless of the choice of martial art, for self defense opt for a style that incorporates lots of full contact pressure fighting in its curriculum. That way you'll get loads of practice and quickly discover what works and what doesn't in reality. As long as you keep in mind that there are pretty much no rules on the street and your best/safest bet is to avoid getting into bad situations altogether.
Let’s define our terms: Legit: Solid curriculum, school and experienced teacher. Modern self-defense relevant techniques and full resistance sparring. Not Legit: opposite of legit. Are there legit “self-defense” Jujutsu or Ninjutsu clubs? Maybe here and there. Do most teach outdated techniques and little to no sparring? Yes. You shouldn’t like those odds one bit. Not sure how much MA experience you have but if it’s zero to very little, it’s very likely you wouldn’t be able to spot rubbish even if it were right in front of your face. You’d better off ditching the idea and seriously consider pressure tested arts/sports. Boxing, Muay Thai, Judo, wrestling, BJJ, CACC…that sort of stuff. But even they won’t cover the meta fight aspect of self defense i.e. threat levels and pre fight indicators, awareness, avoidance and de-escalation. If you’re really set on the self defense thing, maybe look into RBSD places by you. Best of luck.
I'm 1,7 m. Not that small, but still...opponents will probably be randomly larger. Yes, this is why Aikido demonstration appears more viable. Instructor took every aspect of his opponent's body and relied on heavily on the line of body's movement, momentum and tipping it off balance. Heavens forbid, of course I'd run This is for when I can't run and I like martial arts. Thank you, milady. There is a chance: one club offers boxing, muay thai, MMA and more. It's just that my personal preference is something else. But I'm open to the idea. If you folks say it works better, then it does.
Don't knock it until you've tried it. Grappling arts are in my personal opinion the best for those who look to defend themselves from someone trying to hold you down. Rape for example would become very difficult with two broken arms....
Demonstration is the important part here. Much easier to do these things when your opponent is actively resisting you. Looks sloppier. Ultimately more effective in self defense situations which, generally involve some level of physical resistance, unless you are fighting some sort of paralyzed psychic like Dr. Xavier. Seeing as most rapes are perpetrated by people known to the victim, and may well be hesitant about snapping limbs, I'd say the best thing about being better at grappling than them is that they won't be able to hold you down in the first place. This gives you the opportunity to escape or talk your way out of the situation.
Yuki san .. make your own choices and be happy in your martial arts journey.. There is a lot of debate around realness and pressure testing ....make your own mind up . generally if you like the club and the instrucor you will do well and as you get more experienced keep an open mind as to what your goals are , are they achievable and are you still enjoying what you do.. regards Smurf
