My name is Mariedke Dalman and I'm from Canada. I'm currently a 2nd Dan in Can-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu and teach in both Calgary & High River, Alberta. I see there are a few fellow [PJ]ers on the site, so I guess you can add one more to the ranks. :)

Hi, my name's Tim. I am a shodan in can-ryu jiu jitsu from Sensei Hiscoe in Ottawa, Canada.

I started my MA training when I was 24 and have been training for almost 7 years (you do the math).

At the end of last year I had to move to the west coast for a job and have not been able to find a dojo to train at that i feel provided a similar intensity to what I did did before. The local university has a dojo, and I approached them about starting a Can-Ryu club but there is already a classical JJ club there and they weren't very receptive to the idea of having "another joo-jit-sew club" on campus

So lately I've been hitting the gym and training on my own - skipping rope, weights, shadow boxing when the aeobics studio is empty, and stretching.

I'm looking forward to hopefully finding a club that fits with my goals soon.

    Chees

    Tim

    Hi Tim,

If you're looking to train or start your own dojo, why not become a member of JJBC (founded by Steve Hiscoe, your Sensei's son)? I believe their website is www.jjbc.ca (many of the schools which belong to JJBC are Can-Ryu). If you're ever out to Alberta, come visit us :)

My apologies to the moderators if this wasn't the appropriate place to post this message.

    Hi guys Im Jutsuka

Hey guys, in train in Sakura Ryu Jujitsu under Shihan Reg Ellis 6th Dan. I love all martial arts and have trained in a few. None however that I have enjoyed as much as JJ.

I did TKD as a kid for a while never graded and stopped going. Then a sports karate club when I was 15 but I found girls and alcohol around the same time so unfortunately Karate slipped away.

Anyway, I started Jujitsu 4 months ago Im 22 now, and absolutely love it. I combines everything, striking, grappling, locks, throws, break falls.

My master trains us hard, and we like it. No pain, no gain. Everything in my life is getting better and easier since I started JuJitsu. Im going to start some cross training, with the hoe of some MMA comps and the like. Im also interested in more traditional JJ comps.

But mostly i just love training and pushing myself.

Can't wait til I nail a front flip heelkick. (Thank you Tony Jaa.) :D

Hey Jutsuka, where abouts do you train? I did some Sakura Ryu Jujutsu under sensei John (teaches at Stafford) last year and earlier this year, and competed against some people of your system last year at the competition hosted by Kyushin Ryu Jujutsu.

    And welcome to MAP :D

    Howdy,

Nice to meet you all, I am currently training in British/Japanese-derived JJ in North Wales (Chester actually). Currently on the lookout for a more MMA environment but North Wales is not very progressive in such matters...contemplating Judo as an alternative, also interested in (but scared of) Muay Thai! Ah well, it's all good.... Any other North Wales folk post here?
