First lesson was in generic strip mall "Karate". My best friend went to wrestle with his brother and discovered brother had been taking lessons. A spinning back kick later, we were suddenly obsessed with MA. This was mid-to-late 70s - I forget the year. You have to remember that back then martial arts was all the rage - Kung Fu was still on the air or just off it, Bruce Lee was very recent memory, and in the small suburb I lived in, I could walk to at least two different martial arts studios in a few minutes from our house. Heck, there were at least five or six separate martial arts comics books from DC and Marvel back then.

First serious study was Kung Fu San Soo in my early 20s.

Well if you count boxing then I started at age 14 at a pro gym. Then did tkd at age 34 for two years, did one year of shotokan, been doing japanese jujitsu since age 40. I'm now 55 and I teach private self defense lessons from my basement studio.

Hold the rank of 3rd Dan in JJ along with an instructor's certificate from the American Jujitsu Association.

About 10 or so when I started Karate, and I must've kept at it for about a year. I was 30 when I returned to start again.

I started learning wing chun at age 7 or so from the neighbor kid. Mainly I just took punches but he taught me some of the Siu Nim Tao. When I was 10 I studied aikido for a little while and got up to blue belt whatever that means. I now practice Chen taiji more than anything.

I started learning Taiji when I was 7. Oneday I got into fight and I didn't know how to use my Taiji. I then spent my next 3 years worked on "1 step 3 punches". Even today, I still don't know which style does "1 step 3 punches" should belong to.

Started doing Koryu Bujutsu (classical Japanese martial arts) at 19.

I had to pack in judo in 2009 due to a spine injury.

I studied taekwondo for about 2 years when I was 11. I took up boxing when I was about 22 for 3 years. After that, I took a taekwondo course in college for fun and as a slight recap. A few years later, I'm now learning Ninpo.
