Hazards of Gum Shield?

    Hey guys,

So I've developed a strange fear of choking on gum guard whilst sparring. I only spar very light and slow (20% intensity) but recently I've been concerned about my gum shield dislodging during sparring and pushed back into throat and consequently me choking on it lol.

Is this rational? I've googled it and found nothing. Thing is, because of the shape of the gum guard, it'd be hard to dislodge if it got stuck down my throat even with the heimlich maneuver.

Has this ever happened? Obviously I'd never spar without one!

    Thanks guys

As far as I know this never happens. However, if you're using a boil n'bite at the moment, perhaps a proper dentist-made one would feel more secure and lessen your anxiety?

Your trachae is smaller then your jaw, so no its not possible, unless you have the jaw of a snake /eel or secondary jaws of a zenomorph.

Some people have a gag reflex and not like having a gum shield.

Boil n bite or dental surgery fitted ones will not come off unless a good bit of impact or yourself spitting it out.

I got 3 gumshields and tend to cycle through them. Ideally you wanna change them up every couple of years.

Never heard of anyone choking on a gum shield ever. Ibe heard of a very rare one where whilst practicing chokes the carotid artery folds in on itself. Pretty messed up.

Spar at 100% intensity, you'll forget you've even got a gum shield in :fight1:

Someone getting their gumshield pulverised into the back of their throat might happen in a Korean martial arts horror (a la Story of Ricky) but I'm pretty sure you'll be alright mate ;)

Thanks guys, this makes me feel a lot better! Thing is, even at just 20% intensity, I forget I have a gum guard in my mouth and I'm breathing in heavy and fast after a few minutes.
