Following are just a handful of reasons why women, intelligent, athletic, dedicated women, should (some would say need to) lift weights. Not color-coordinated, 'hey look they match my outfit' weights. But heavy weights. Weights that will make guys in the gym take notice and say (silently in their heads, from that mini-voice of insecurity that guys tend to have) "Whoa."

Gea Johnson - A former competitive Olympic weightlifter, which means is was literally her job to lift as heavy as possible. Please see her photo section, and see if you can still say with a straight face that heavy weights will make you "bulky" and "manly-looking".

Mistress Krista's Site stumptuous.com is probably the single most comprehensive site for converting non-believing ladies into serious gym sisters. And she seems like just a cool person...bonus! :D

From Westside Barbell - this article is a compliation of every traditional myth regarding women and weights, with definitive, factual responses.

The T-Vixen Roundtable - What is a T-Vixen? Simple put, it's a badass chick who can handle herself in the gym, in the ring, in the board room, where ever she needs to take care of business. And this is a roundtable discussion with 5 such women of power.

    A Beginner's Routine, How to Build a T-Vixen - An entire article written by a T-Vixen, designed to help create a T-Vixen.

The Firm Body Guide for Beginners. An outstanding article which serves as a near-perfect introduction for women who have fallen for the mass-marketed (no pun intended) brainwashing and fitness myths.

P.S. - I didn't invent the term "T-Vixen", so please don't take offense. If you are/were offended by the phrase, understand that it is meant as a term of empowerment and confidence. Any misunderstanding of the term was entirely unintentional. (Is that P.C. enough of me?) ;)

Hooray for the new sticky! I have no doubt this will be shifting over to the resource library in a few weeks so post your views before it gets moved.

Gea Johnson - don't have to tell me twice to check her photo section! :D

My absolute favorite she-muscle piece of hot femaledom is Kathy Long, 5 time female kickboxing champion and a really nice lady besides. I've met her three times now and you couldn't ask for a nicer lady who can also kick your butt from here to next week. See my photo section for a picture of me and her.

Nice stuff Bill. I've also found Cheryl Anderson, who's pulled an over-300 pound deadlift...while she weighed a "husky" 97 pounds!!

I read some of the things in women's weight training but I read about how you dont have to have weights (good in my part im poor lol) you can use items in your house or around your house or go buy things to make something. LIke a sandbag or a shovel lol thats crazy. Heres something I thought to be really funny because me and my friend have had this theory that women back in the day wouldn't work out all they did was pick crap up in the yard....and then way way back in the day they would do yard work and go out in the woods while the men were working and get kindling or however you spell it lol. Kendling i think too early in the morning for me :D...but heres what she said:

Now, I'm not talking about those idiotic "you don't need weights, you just need 12 oz. cans of tuna!" workouts that Cosmopolitan magazine advertises (I swear I am not making the part about the tuna up... it was actually suggested by Cosmo for biceps curls... maybe they were aiming that article at 2-year-old malnourished children or something). I'm talking about old-school, farm girl, Dinosaur-training-style pickin' up heavy stuff lying around the house and yard.

:D its so great lol great site :p If i dont wanna get bulk when I workout I just do pilates :D but I still dont use heavy weights .....because for one Im cheap and for two im weak lol. :D must start off light!

If I found a woman in the gym lifting more than I was my voice of insecurity wouldn't be so mini. :D

It actually wouldn't be very hard for this to happen considering I haven't been working out properly in ages.

I would agree that weight training will benefit both men and women. I must say the women on the websites look great and can probably pack a hell of a punch too. :)

Stuff the 'you can lift weights and not get bulky' line, I'd kill to be more meso, I look pathologically thin. My friend is jealous of me for being so emaciated, but I hate it. I look really weak, and besides people just look at me and think 'Oh poor little 126lb weakling, better wrap her in cotton wool or she's get hurt.'

I have a confession to make.... I actually read this site regularly and I found her piece on squatting to be very, very useful for working on my form.
Have you tried the 'milk and squats' routine?

It's true, there are still alot of women that believe the old-fashioned stereotypes and outdated myths regarding women's fitness routines.

The truth is that women who perform the same strength training as men benefit from bone and soft-tissue modeling, increased lean body mass, decreased fat, and enhanced self-confidence in exactly the same way!

If you check out those web sites cited above many concur that women should strength train in the same ways as men, using the same program design, exercises, intensities, and volumes, relative to their body size and level of strength, so they can achieve the maximum change to their bodies in the shortest possible time.

Now as far as posibly becoming the She-Hulk --- it is necessary to note that the level of testosterone does vary among women . Women who have higher testosterone levels may have a greater potential for strength/power and size development than other women, but this is not a such a bad thing. There is more of an advantage to gaining muscle s and if you ever do reach the point of not wanting any more size in a muscle group, then it is a simple matter of backing off in the intensity and load for that muscle.

As cailabug commented about lifting heavy ... "I'm weak"... well,
true, sometimes the weight is hard to lift! Therein lies the essence of the "resistance training", it resists you if you are doing it right! ;)

As to the thread topic, I appreciate the links and info, I'll be able to make use of it when talking to some female companions who refuse to do weights.
