Getting ready to lift

The past few days I haven't really wanted to lift. This is quite a rarity for me. My sleep has been a little off, so maybe that's why. But it's taken a mental effort to get to the gym, get going, and get it done. So, since I'm in need of inspiration...

...what do you do to get yourself pumped up to train? How do you get mentally ready to lift (or do MA, or whatever)?

Listen to angry music. Slap myself in the face and say 'just bloody do it for christs sake' (or something along those lines). Think of stuff that gets me fired up.

I very rarely need pumping up to go to Judo/BJJ class, but sometimes lifting can be a bit of a chore.

Hmmm...I never really have to psyche myself up for lifting too much. I just blank everything else in the gym out and just focus 100% on me and the bar. Seems to work!

I just think of what my goals are and how bad i want to reach them, and in 2 days that i will regret not doing the workout.

Having a training partner helps immensely, and is probably the single best motivator (IMO). In the absense of a good partner, strong coffee (or similar) and watching one of those lifting compilations on youtube are other options.

Just knowing that if I am home swilling an adult beverage and eating chips some other chap is hitting the iron. I hate feeling like my opponent might have put a bit more into his training then I have!

Do your warmup. Then you'l probably want to carry on.

Oh yeah, like cosmic said having a training partner is the best by far.

I remember a saying along the lines of "While your not training, someone else is training to kick your ****".

Ditto, I am the best motivator. ;)

Seriously though, just the thought of the gap getting smaller/bigger between you and your partner just because you skip a session is usually enough motivation for me. Failing that I like to read about training, for example the recent Eric Cressey Deadlifting articles at TN has got me itching to lift tomorrow, when I widen the gap a little! :D

Just get yourself to the gym and crack out the heavy metal. The rest will take care of itself

You're also a training partner thief!

Okay, so maybe my inability to get to Cosmic's house for the last year has contributed to our not training together, but still, I hold you responsible! :D
