So I went to class today (kung fu) and my sifu was in America (New York) and he'd left his high ranking students in charge of class. I was training, and we had to do a pretty basic running kick. Run, kick off the right leg, raise the left leg to chest high and kick with the right leg. This was my first time doing it and I received an awkward pull in my right leg (kicked too high.)

We only did it one more time, because on my second turn I landed badly (left knee bent) and my Patella was dislocated. ie: my knee cap went out of place. Obviously class ended so that they could call the ambulance and the like.

It wasn't the nicest injury I've ever gotten (especially since I'm such a beginner.) I've been told that for two weeks I'll be unable to place any weight on the leg and then I'll have to start physical therapy and the like. This sounds so fun. Anyway, just thought I'd mention it see if it's happened to other people (as I'm sure it has) and what advice/sympathies I get.

I thought this thread was going to be about getting kicked in the crotch.

But srsly, knee injuries are a bitch and a half. Hope you recover well!

Imagewise, it's cooler if the injury comes from impact with a training partner ;). Training injuries make you think, and help form your training philosophy. As you learn to avoid the dumb ones, new and exciting varieties arise :D.

    Good luck with the recovery.

I've also got a leg issue having had a weird kick into the side of my calf during some almost-sparring. Not as serious as a dislocation but I'm limping slightly a week later and I find I can't trust that leg for support or action.

yea i thought this was going to be u saying u got kicked in the crotch or something too lol, but yea i think all of us who have been doing it a while have a few injuries here and there, but knee injuries are always a pain so dont go rushing back and doing more than u should, just make sure to give it time to heal properly and do whatever the dr. says.

lol, I guess I meant it in a way like "I'm feeling like damaged goods." Right now I'm just hoping I can make a full, complete recovery and not always have a weaker knee. Thanks for all the advice. I'm currently fighting cabin fever, especially during the times when I usually train.
