The bald headed guy was the best of the bunch.Solid posture , good timing , nothing fancy and quite effective. The others were a bit too fancy for my taste.Especially the second guy against kicks.
sorry but this video sucks. you don't see him do anything. this sort of thing gives Ki Aikido a bad name - justifiably so. looks all mystical and gives the impression there is some weird magic at work. hate the OTT drums as well. prefer it when in videos you can hear uke hit the mat and breathing hard. uke should be absolutely spent at the end.
I'm sure there's some good Aikido in there somewhere, but it just comes off as so rehearsed. They probably trained really hard for weeks to put on a good show and the audience seemed to lap it up...but what does it say about Aikido? What is it telling the audience/viewer? It's dynamic and fast, yet it's so contrived This type of demo just doesn't sit well with me. Lasers, lights and music....I find it embarrassing
Isn't it a fact that all demos have to be contrived to some extent. Something I wonder though is does a demo like this look worse because the uke is skilled in good ukemi and that in itself makes every technique look much more showy than if it was performed on some drunken fool swinging a punch at you on a Friday night?
Sorry I realise the word worse is probably not the best word to have chosen I was tryying to imply each technique ends up with a much more exaggerated effect.
To some extent, yes, I guess all demos are contrived. What bothers me and what stands out like a saw thumb is that uke seems to know what attack to give at the right moment. Very rehearsed with no cues from tori. Uke should have NO IDEA what technique is going to be applied on them. All they should be doing is attacking with sincerity and getting up and attacking again.
Don't think this has been posted before... 3 Part GO Warrior Aikido Documentary. Some good stuff, some bad. In an ideal world? Absolutely. But if you have someone commentating it's just not practical. I also don't like the music or the lights. Martial arts don't need theatrical additions.
The knife attacks were too sloppy, I think, but overall I'm impressed with this Thambu guy. He was obviously in control of everything at all times. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=357TC2l7O9w"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=357TC2l7O9w[/ame]
Great video's folks. Aikido is the one art I always wanted to take but my bad back wouldn't last more than one throw.

amazing video. the guy's technique is incredible. his posture, movement, wow. the force he generates on the throws is scary.
Ha ha. Zombie Bokken, cool name dude. I've been in real fist fights and it is never as a demonstration. The thing is Aikido can be used when it is there. But I find it perposterous that you wouldn't ever use any punches or kicks in a real fight. Aikido adds to your capabilities. I would think a person remiss if they never learned how to use strikes & also throw in some ground fighting.
