cmon Seagal is awesome don't hate! Watch Under Siege, Deadly Crossing and Marked for Death if you disagree!! He used to be a superstar. I think this new movie might make him relevant again. The True Justice TV show isn't so bad either. Aikido fighter...what else would he be?

Those are movies. M O V I E S! If that were the case, I'd be more impressed with the protoges of the Beijing Opera school like Jackie Chan or Samo Hung

lol you guys are haters. Seagal rules. I challenge anyone to see Deadly Crossing and tell me otherwise. Or Under Siege. Next you'll be saying Arnold isn't an action star because lately he sucks!

What does being an action star have to do with being a good fighter?

If you think the two correlate you're sorely mistaken.

Well it's hard to do the moves that Seagal does in his movies (especially Deadly Crossing) without being an expert fighter. Look, I'm not trying to say it's Academy Award material. I'm just saying - if you like 80's-90's style action movies...Deadly Crossing is definitely worth seeing. He kicks butt in it. That's all.

I can't watch his movies, his acting is terrible! The fight scenes are very cool, but the movies themselves are garbage.

I was surprised by how many action stars have had actual fight experience. I was pretty convinced that they were all full of baloney.

Keanu Reeves in the Matrix had no one ounce of experience

Any fight choreographer can have you looking that good without breaking a sweat. Movies are movies and have not one ounce of basis in reality
    - using them as evidence of someone being able to fight is about as stupid as it gets

Well you can both be an action star AND be a good fighter, there is no reason to think they are mutually exclusive.

However, I wouldn't bet for Seagal in a fight against... Pretty much anyone.

OK i understand where you're coming from. Even fake fighting can look bad though.

Real fighting looks like crap most the time

Not in movies like Deadly Crossing. You have to admit the fighting scenes look real and authentic. Not with a bunch of different takes and edits and all that...

I don't think this is a debate about realism as much as it is you clinging to this image you have about how awesome you think this one particular movie is :p

This thread is becoming quite disturbing. Surely most people by the age of 10 can distinguish between movie-fu and reality?

Heck,in the 80s I had arguments with some boxers, well experienced boxers-because they believed that the pro wrestling matches, and everything that went on in the ring were real.Boxers.Go figure.

Real fights do tend to be disappointing. Either that or absolutely horrifying, not much in between.
Most scraps I've seen descend into a scrappy mess, a mess that resembles Judo, a mess where Judo owns and rules. So um yes... do Judo.
