Anyone study a language or know another language? Right now I'm studying Japanese, and my level is fairly poor, But I'm learning. I'm trying to help my learning process by making a manga. here's an example.
I'm also currently studying Japanese as part of my uni studies. By the way, the manga seems like a good idea, especially if you have someone you can get to read and correct it.
Russian. It interests me, it's worthwhile for my hobbies and being bilingual is worth it for its own sake. Rosetta Stone is nuts expensive but totally worth it.
I also know Russian. I found the Rosetta Stone useless myself, but I have my own learning style. I made it to advanced level Russian self-taught and polished my skills when I found Arizona language Institute a few years ago. (was placed in the advanced class ) I want to do freelance translation and write opera in Russian. It's a "class III" language, so study it at your own risk. ETA: russianforfree.com is a great learning resource.
I picked up basic Russian and Ukranian for the coaching gig I did there a couple years back. Been learning Indonesian for nearly 10 years now, pretty good for a foreigner, even though my Indo wife (who has a better English accent than me lol) cringes at my pronunciation. Want to speak it fluently because we've been talking about emigrating to Bali in 5-10 years.
learned greek because that's how my parents communicated with us. did about 7 years of french in high school and university, but sadly, i'm so out of practice it hurts. decided to pick up spanish on my own since i'm watching the world cup on the spanish (free) channels.
Languages I was fluent or near fluent in at one time, can still read: COBOL, PL/1, C, C++, JCL, REXX. Languages I can still use but it is a bit of a struggle. JAVA, JSP, ASP, VB.NET, C#. Languages I currently use: SQL, VBA. What I want to learn: POWERSHELL
I'm going back to uni to do a masters, and thinking of doing a language course in russian (beginner) or going intermediate on japanese. What I can speak: English French some german basic japanese swearing engurish
I converse with many foreign people, in any of the following languages. English Loud English Slow English Loud and Slow English French
I wish I had taken French more seriously. I don't study properly but mess around with Finnish and Swedish. My spoken Finnish is terrible, I can get by and do the basics if I need to. My reading and understanding is ok though. I am thinking of going back to classes after summer. It's a bloody terrible language to learn. Swedish is ok though, it's very similar to English, so it's relatively easy and you can progress quite quickly.
The only language I can speak at a decent level - apart from Italian - is English, though my accent is still quite awkward :dunno:. Hey Van Zandt, can your wife give some advice on that? I know some basic Russian and Spanish, mostly stuff I've picked up from tourists over the years, though I'm definitely going to properly study Russian sooner or later. I've studied Latin at school and I'm studying German on my own at the moment. As for languages one doesn't normally *speak* , I know Python and I'm now learning C.
i studied swedish last year, and am waiting to see if i can take up norwegian again this year. additionally i speak english and portuguese in addition to my native spanish (although my portuguese is rusty as hell)
yeah, just replace the 'a's with 'e's at the end of half the words (but still pronounce half of them as if they ended in 'a') no, you're wrong. capital letters are scared of me
American English & Appalachian English - Native language, fluent. Latin American Spanish (especially Mexico) - Fluent Mandarin Chinese - Conversationally proficient, but not fluent, and I'm mostly illiterate (I can read children's books but that's about it). German - Just started learning the language. Japanese - Used to know conversational Japanese, but I haven't used it in about 6 years so I've basically forgotten most of it. Know hiragana and katakana, but illiterate when it comes to kanji.
