Putting it here as i want book reccomendations on not strictly martial arts unless you count military history as martial arts, i kind of do.

Anyone got any good book/source reccomdations on military engineering, treatises and just general books on military history and war from modern to ancient. Memoirs are acceptable but im more looking at books which outline tactices used etc. (priority is military engineering and siege craft as those are hard to find) Naval warfare would be nice too.

I would put my interests aroudn the 600AD - to modern day. Can divide it up to pre gunpowder (11's and before), transitional (12-1600's), post gunpowder(1600's-mid 1800's and modern explsoives (1800's+). :p (dates there ar erough guides, will happily argue about them if somone wants to.)

There's a book called "How Great Generals Win" that I started but didn't finish. It was quite good, but reads like it could/should be a textbook for military officers. Each chapter stands alone. It explains all the factors behind several significant military victories/losses (for every victor there's a loser, of course) in history.

Sounds like its in the area of the type of book i am looking for, i will give it a search now. On my radar is "on war" by Forget his exact name, but a Prussian general amde after i think the seven years war with france.

Also i have the art of war before someone suggests that, thats literally put on every military tag on the two-three main book distrubition websties i went on looking for military engineering books. I skimmed the contents list, no obvious indicator for miltiary engineering.

"The Military Revolution: Military Innovation and the Rise of the West, 1500-1800" - Geoffrey Parker

Dry as a bone, but informative

You might enjoy Victory in the East: A military history of the First Crusade by John France.

It's not to everyone's taste but I'd also recommend William Slim's Defeat into Victory.
