I have been trying to get a comedy youtube channel going and I am having trouble coming up with ideas of what to joke about. I am normally on the ball when talking with people, but sitting down and writing stuff out has proven to be a lot harder. I have made a few videos but not with the regularity that I want to.
Writer's block can hit any time, whether you're scripting a comedy show (you) or writing postgrad assignments (me). I found the following articles helpful: How to Overcome Writer’s Block: 14 Tricks That Work Writer’s Block: 27 Ways to Crush It Forever 10 Practical Tips for Overcoming Writer's Block I found the most useful advice was to not put so much pressure on myself by seeking perfection.
I hav enever done much of writing, but I draw a lot and maybe having an artist's block is a bit similar. When I lack inspiration, what helps me is brows through art I admire. That I find is the best remedy. Or maybe try something different. If you can't think of anything funny to write, maybe write something else for a start?
Only thing that helps me is set a word limit for the day and start typing. Typing literally anything, I've got some pages which start with the brand-name on my monitor repeated 20 times, some where the first half is lyrics to a song I can't remember very well, some with the title of the piece repeated with slight phrasing variations etc. etc. Don't touch the mouse, the arrow keys or backspace until you've got your world limit. After that you're allowed to go back and edit, cut, move the bits that aren't total gibberish into a different document and so on.
