I was always told that people in France and the UK don't bathe and they stink. And they're ill mannered. I've never been over there so I don't know. Many of us think of Russia and Italy as mafia states. We think of Germans as super smart so they get the positive stereotype.

What do Euros think of us? I am aware of the stereotype of Americans as hard core nationalists. What other stereotypes do people in UK/Europe have about us?

I went out with a girl who was half English and half French.

She only shaved under one armpit.

    I'm here all week. :D

My apologies if you are French. It's just a joke.

I recall washing my hair 14 years ago. :(

    Negative stereotypes:

Mostly morbidly obese gluttons who ride around on Rascals. The more wealthy are grotesque waxworks made by plastic surgeons.

Embarrassingly emotionally incontinent. Not able to control their whoops, yelps, outbursts of rage and high-fives, like toddlers.

Self-centered and incapable of empathy. Not willing to help those less fortunate in society.

Ignorant about the world, different cultures, politics and science.

Like big babies who resemble caricatures of the seven deadly sins, basically.

    Positive stereotypes:

    Nice teeth.

Except instead of wine, it would be a glass of beer that has less taste and alcoholic content than urine.

    Largely sums up my ones.

I would add the infatuation with guns to the point of mental gymnastics in their justification.

A very black and white view of the world of "good versus evil" "capitalism v communism" "freedom v totalitarianism" "democrat v republican" with basically no grey between them.

And an ignorance of history including America's own.

A complete hypocrisy over politics and foreign affairs tied up in American exceptionalism.

A terrifying level of religious fervour for such a developed and important country. If the statistics still holds true of more of Congress believing in angels than in global warming, then, well, I don't know what to say.

In my experience Americans are LOUD. Like you always know if one is in a bar because you can here them.

American teenage women who travel are shallow in my experience. Not much depth. Travel experience =/= life experience.

    Great teeth though.

Well, on the positive side there are some things from America I adore. Several country/country and western artists, American style pancakes, and embarrassingly, How I Met Your Mother is one of my favourite comedies! Like everyone else I've heard bad stereotypes, predominantly ignorance and hatred. I've spoken to some Americans who were ignorant and hateful, and I've spoken to some who were among the most liberal people I've met. The American tourists who come through my town have been noisy but friendly enough :) Marshall says it best ;)

European stereotypes - they stand wayyyy too close to you. I want at least 1m between myself and any other person, whereas most people I meet internationally seem more comfortable at around .5m. Take that suckas.
