I may not get out much or am just lucky but I've never met or trained with folks who have gone on about Aikido's "philosophy", other than the occasional joke about the "art of love" whilst applying a nasty choke or throw. Now, the internet may be full of it but are all the small dojo's where people are training week in week out really that bad or is it just a misconception thanks to the internet?

i think it's a misconception personally. every aikido instructor i've ever seen teaches first to get away from an attack. only once safe can a technique be applied. philosophy? aikido is a martial art first and foremost. atemi is not very philosophical either, no?

That gets filed under internet rubbish to me. There are idiots in all walks of life, and I accept Aikido can sure attract them, but I still think the majority of dojos/clubs are just getting on with physical training.....now I'm leaving out quality and purpose from that statement.

PS Dave, you prob don't remember but approx 5yrs ago I posted asking about a club, you PM'd and advised me to PM Koyo who knew the instructor. I did and 5yrs on I'm still training there. So thanks for your input back then!

Oh man, I've seen this guys vids before. It's just blows my mind that it's even possible that these grown men think that what they're doing is effective in the simplest terms.

It's not Aikido to me, doesn't even register.

    terrible, terrible, terrible

Maybe once, maybe more than once.

Almost sounds like a marketing buzz word...come train in our dojo...we offer real pressure testing.

HA! Floats your hakama...I like that. Very funny. I'll have to remember that one!

Since I have approached this thread, and titled it aikido is not technique, not fighting, then what is being resisted? In your statement the resistance is to the application of a technique. Since aikido is not technique, the resistance cannot be against technique. So what is being resisted? Anything that the individual does or tries to do? Since there is no technique, it is quite easy to overcome resistance. Resistance can only apply if there is something there to resist against...ever heard of John Boyd (certainly you have)? Think of it along those lines.

As for some of your other questions, I refer you to my post #1 in this same thread.

In other words you don't have an answer.

That's all you had to say.

Last time I checked, your signature wasn't on my paychecks...so I said this:

Oh, no, I am enjoying our debate very much. In fact it contributes greatly to the topic of this thread.

(and I am being serious, it does contribute)

Yes, whereas you make a habit of obsfucation to the point where every thread becomes a circus.

No, it's where legitimate questions are asked and bovine feces are given as a response.

BS is good for fertilizing fields and gardens. When you pass it off as educational material to others, it's not so good.

Did you intend to post this in this thread? Anyways, I have never heard the term post whoring before, and I didn't find it in the TOS...could you explain?

Okay. Thanks. Now can we return to discussing the topic of this thread? Or are there some other issues you feel important enough to bring up here?
