Came across this image from a German cigarette card, the back bears the caption: “Jump over the epee”. The frontis is inscribed: “The unsheathed epee put on the breast and jumped over it”. It's taken from Alexander Doyle's fencing treatise, He was an irish fencing master who taught in Nuremberg in the early 18th c. (I believe he also taught the Scots fencing master MacBane) Louie
