What was the last movie you watched ....

I'm actually a weirdo, I liked both Alien and Terminator better than their sequels, but I know a lot of people disagree with me on it. Like I said, definitely arguable. T2 and Aliens look to me like where Cameron really found his voice and style of directing in a way that Terminator did not (the legal battle in Terminator was pretty interesting though!). You're just salty about Robocop because it was so anti-capitalist I think it was a really well done, strange little gem of a movie that likely wouldn't be made today because it's so bizarre. Mixing sci-fi, propaganda, anti-capitalism, with insane gore, slapstick violence and a Jesus Christ metaphor? Crazzzzy man.

 

I pointed my face at 'Spider-Man Homecoming' last night after spectacular word of mouth and immensely positive reviews.

I came away slightly underwhelmed...

I'm a huge comic book fan, I also (mostly) love the MCU (jog on 'Iron Man 2'), and after the glory that was Spider-Man's appearance in 'Civil War' I was absolutely sold. Unfortunately, I have to admit, I found 'Homecoming' to be okay/good, rather than outstanding. The standout of the movie was Michael Keaton who played Adrian Toomes/The Vulture, and I'd like to see his character again in future movies.

There are however, some deep cuts and awesome nods to characters who appear in the books, as well as scenes and situations, that you'd probably only fully appreciate if you read Spider-Man (both Earth-616 and Earth-1610). It also see's the return of some sorely missed characters from the MCU.

Overall, the movie was fun in parts, very dull in others, there were some very amusing comedic scenes, and lots of fan service.

 

I liked it. Glad this is not an origin story, but an actual Spidey adventures kinda thing. Massive nod to John Hughes and of films in similar genre.
Keaton's Vulture is great, he is so creepy and menacing but also quite sympathetic (in a way).
A few things I guessed.

I love the running joke of how Marisa Tomei / Aunt May is super attractive "for an Aunt" and is actually the love interest :'D

 

Have you seen tthe remake, its good! But not as good as the original!

 

I DID! I actually went to see it in theaters, but it didn't really hold up for me. Tried to be too many things all at once and just wasn't as good. I think I'd have liked it more if it was generic "CYBORG POLICEMAN" instead of Robocop.

 

Last weekend I watched Dr. Strange, as a former collector and fan of the comic book in my younger years. hmm nerd!
Maybe it was something about the subject matter that appealed, was into comic collecting and reading for a number of years.
Anyway the stories, mysticism, psuedo science and just general craziness of Dr. Strange was always right up my street.

So I was very much looking forwards to this Marvel movie.. I'm glad to say I had fun and really enjoyed watching it. The lead was a very good choice, he slotted into the role seamlessly. Some of the battle scenes were slightly wierd and crazy and something a bit different, I suspect quite challenging for the filmakers. Overall I think they pulled it off well and set things up nicely for future outings. A fanboy 8/10.

Last night I watched Sausage Party.. ha, so funny, I was laughing out loud a fair few times. Crude sure, but I like that and the story and some of the situations were pretty clever. The drama and emotion came through in some parts, like the kitchen scene and for what's a silly comedy that's nice going. Funny and clever adult viewing 8/10

 

Dr Strange to me had a old Hong Kong Wuxia movie feel. Magic and Kung fu, to me was an awesome mix.
The only thing (if I were to nitpick) that I didn't like, was the forced comedy. And Cumberlandsausage's House MD accent.

 

Recently watched...

Lego Batman movie - Hilarious in places but a bit long. Loved it overall
The Shallows - Some nice tension in some scenes but a bit too much hollywood schmatltz and sweetness. Not bad.

 

The Mummy (Tom Cruise)

So I managed to point my face to this one. Utterly forgettable. Russell Crowe hamming up his performance.

However, Sofia Boutella seems to be Hollywood's new "action in make up girl" and oddly still very attractive :love:

 

Watching (halfway) of Icarus on Netflix.

It's about drug use in sports. Mostly following a pro-cyclist is doing EPO etc like Lance Armstrong as an experiment, the affects etc and how WADA/USADA works.

Imagine Supersize Me but with steroids instead of burgers.

 

This is only going to reinforce the martial artist stereotype but the last movie I watched, last weekend, was an old one

An Eye for an Eye - Chuck Norris...but then I like Chuck Norris Movies

I am fairly sure many already know what it is about

Sean Kane (Chuck Norris) is forced to resign from the San Francisco Police Department's Narcotics Division when he goes berserk after his partner is murdered. He decides to fight alone and follows a trail of drug traffickers into unexpected high places.

Richard Roundtree, Mako and Christopher Lee are also in it

 

Was just thinking about this film a couple of days back - Someone asked me what my favourite Chuck Norris film is (definitely a toss up between this one, Lonewolf McQuade and Silent Rage) Two highlights of the film for me would definitely be A) Mako's portrayal of a continaully critical teacher of Norris' (clearly effective) skills and B) The fight on the ship (among so many others...)

I have always like the Chuck Norris movie Forced Vengeance..as well as all the Chuck Norris movies that have been listed so far

 

Mad Max Fury Road. It was alright, but I was expecting better.

 

Constantine. Better than the critical consensus suggests.

 

The Dark Knight again. OMG...love that movie.
