I mean, we're six months in and we have a President literally tweeting about his nation's preparedness for nuclear war. At 4:29AM. I'm having trouble thinking of a power so monstrous that was treated (tweeted, lol) so casually.

I read that the account is being reported for threating physical abuse.
I wonder if any action will be taken on that, he is a liability.

Y'know what the worst part of this is? Trump's win means that in every election for the foreseeable future there will be a know-nothing loud mouthed bigot trying to attract the racist vote while acting like a smarmy urethra spewing nonsense and excrement in political debates.

My urethra doesn't spew excrement, but you take my point.

Mod Edit: Keep it PG mate. I know its a emotional topic, but family friendly :)

Long term, I agree. If we manage to live long enough I would hope he's someone future generations will look back on and ask what the hell Americans were thinking. But then the rest of the world already asks that and goes on about their day. But short term I just don't think the stuff you point out matters to people. It matters to you a lot because of your personality and interests. It matters to me because, if I say so myself, I'm not a moron who can't see past my infatuation with America's self-created mythology. But as it stands currently as I can see from the news it seems like its just business as usual in America. Granted, I'm basing this on media, but I remember a lot more howling about the Birther controversy than I've seen over any of Trump's decisions. Everyone also seems quiet content to ignore what's come out about the election scandals.

Edit: Added to this, he's not just "the people president" or whatever, but he's the first Republican president after two terms of Obama, at a time when America is very much losing its place globally. I feel like he's going to be given a lot of cushion space just because he's finally the other half of America's time to shine. And seeing as hard power seems to be the only type America as a nation understands (I remember Obama freuqently being called soft because he didn't resort to bombs immediately) his international stance of bombs bombs bombs is reassuring at a time Americans are becoming aware the 'American Age' as it were is coming to an end.

Trumps biggest issues are international and, honestly, I've never got the impression Americans as a whole are even aware yet alone care about what's going on outside their own borders. Trump's approach to IR with an emphasis on hard power and American exceptionalism is what I would expect a majority of Americans to agree with. The dude stood in front of the world at his inauguration and said "we will be protected by the might of our military which will be the greatest force in the world" or something to that effect. Words that if they came from a new Russian leader would lead to blind panic. But from Trump, no one really cared. It was something to cheer or it was just business as usual. For America, Trump seems to be what was wanted, for the rest of world, Trump is just what is expected from America at this point.

I am beyond appalled. Neo-Nazi's feeling emboldened by the Trump Presidency are marching. Turns violent - one White Supremacist runs his car through counter protesters- killing one and injuring more. Trump won't cite the difference between White Supremacists and the counter protesters.

Trump blames 'many sides' after violent white supremacist rally in Virginia

Trump’s Remarks on Charlottesville Violence Are Criticized as Insufficient

This is how any politician should be responding. Thankfully, some are!
Charlottesville officials: 1 dead, 19 injured after crash near 'Unite the Right' rally - CNN

After Charlottesville statement, Sens. Marco Rubio, Orrin Hatch also call on POTUS to 'call evil by its name'

Clinton: Leaders need to 'be strong' and decisive after Virginia violence

I can't express strongly enough just how horrified I am by this. So, where are the Trump supporters in this thread now? What have you to say about these events and his response?

I get the impression many Americans think of the US as being like the captain of the football team, if the world were a high school.

They're the best looking, toughest, best at everything, and anyone who gets in their way, or doesn't kiss their butt, are just snide dorks who are so jello 'cos USA rocks. They really believe that everything is better in their country.

You can't expect the guy to alienate his voter base. He needs those nazis to get a second term!

I can't help but think that Charlottesville's violence is only the start of this whole thing, but y'all know by now that I'm pessimistic.

    Yes.

But, um, dude, don't call us Nazis. One, you immediately lose any argument the moment you use that word or the name "Hitler." Instant loss. And two, it ain't cool at all. Not at all.

I wasn't calling you a nazi. I was calling the nazis in Charlottesville nazis. You know, because they're actual nazis.

Except that you said he needs them to win again.

Half of the people who actually voted last year, voted for him. I don't think it would be accurate to say that a significant percentage of those voters were/are Nazis. That would be saying that a significant percentage of American voters have always been Nazis. See, it's unreasonable to say that, poof, a couple years ago we suddenly had a significant percentage of Nazis who popped up out of nowhere. No, no -- if they're here now, they've been here for a long time. So to say that they're the reason Trump got elected, or to say that they will be crucial for Trumps future re-election, is to say that Nazis have been influential in several prior elections. But ... I both outright deny that Nazis have been influential in several prior elections, and I consider the very suggestion as very insulting. (Again, there's a rule that whoever uses "Nazi" or "Hitler" in an argument automatically loses the argument.)

(shrug) So that's where I'm coming from.

Why? There both failed ideologies who lost wars and did untold damage to their populations.

The confederates fought and lost a war over wanting to be able to keep human slaves.

Thats a big something to be ashamed of.

    Very.

The sad thing is that for someone of my generation, that flag is the roof of a very awesome car from a very entertaining tv show. It has nothing to do with slavery and everything to do with driving fast on dirt roads with a bow and arrow. So unfortunate that it would be paraded next to those other guys.

Something to consider, all the Nazis who voted, voted for trump, many had never voted before, and trumps win margin is incredibly slim, so statistically it's correct to say every Nazis vote matters, as long as the non Nazis don't realise it.

Especially in the south where states votes are weighted via how many slaves were oringinally there.

Would you feel that way if your family had originally been slaves?
