I played around with something like it for a bit. I can't say I practice it much anymore. I do end up using something like it but instead of a punch, I'll step in with a shoulder strike and follow with an uppercut right down the middle. So it is just about the same foot work against a retreating opponent, but with deeper step and a shoulder strike... if I'm understanding what the shift step is.
Hello RebWado Continuing our convo a tad. And for anyone else reading this and interested: Here's a decent clip by ABK on Uchubes of the Slip Step combination: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYByIB6N6Rc"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYByIB6N6Rc[/ame] Classic 'Dempsey-style' punching. You don't see it too much in Modern Boxing any more.
Does any one organise seminars or the like in old style boxing/pugilism. Are there any actual classes held in the uk? Thanks Simon
