Waist Deep Snow
by Maria Scollo
Rising from the ground,
a turbulent swirling of
fine cold powder sparkles,
envelopes me as I run.
A gust of wind,
all I can see is white
and I can't help the joy
escaping in my laughter.
As the icy cloud clears,
I notice evergreens
holding steady
in the storm,
gathering more ice
heavy in their strong arms,
silent and knowing.
While before me
a master forges a pathway
in the waist deep snow.
