Paul Vunak and PFS?
I found a JKD gym about 30 minutes from me, which I am NOT to lazy to travel to.
![]() It's affiliated with Paul Vunak and his Progressive Fighting Systems (PFS), which is a substyle of Jeet Kune Do. Anybody know anything about this guy or his system? Is it legit? And would 30£ a month for two 90 minute classes a week be too much to pay for it?

Vunak's got a pretty good Rep as a teacher, so I figure the people he teaches are pretty good too and thirty quid per month for two 90minute sessions per week sounds pretty groovy to me. Go!

Never met Vunak myself so have no personal opinion of him. I've heard a lot of stuff about him as a person, both good and bad. But I've never heard anything negative about his martial arts skill or ability. And he looked solid on the one video I saw of him.
Having said that, though, I have met quite a few PFS guys. All of them have been good guys and, in my estimation, about where I'd think they should be with the training time they've had (i.e.: if they say they've been training for 2 years, they're about where I'd expect after 2 years). That's been my experience. I'd say go check it out. If you like what you see, start training. If you don't, walk. Mike

I've met and trained with Paul Vunak. As a martial artist and teacher he is VERY good. Wether his offspring hold a comparable skill level or ability to pass that on you can only tell by going there and training. I would definately recommend you give it a shot.

Vunak is a great instructor and theorist.
I strongly respect his methods both sporting and combat. Just remember people are only people and what can we say about someone that doesn't have the fame of a Paul Vunak? We don't just don't know until we get to know them and observe their methods as well as their personality. If the guy impresses you with his teaching and you are pleased with your progression, then sounds like you got a winner. If you are not pleased, then go elsewhere. By trying different people you can find out what you like, what kind of person you best respond to, and what kind of methods both fighting and teaching you do best with. |

i too have had the honor of training with paul vunak and as far as my opinion he is a great instructor and inovator in the martial arts as far as his students go he generally develops qaulified instructors how ever ive met instructors who are qaulified to teach that cant and fighters who arent that great at fighting in the ring but would make excellent teachers you can have all the knowledge in the world but if you cant comunicate that knowledge you wouldnt be a good instructor when it comes down to it its always up to you if you like the way someone teaches and understand the communiction probly would be a good instructor for you

Oh this thread is good news.
I've been looking at a school's website of one of Paul's students, Robert Parmakovski. Planning on sending an email to find out some costs. I might even move to get down there .

I agree with what everyone else has written. I have been a Vunak fan for some time and have many of his videos. I also trained with the awesome Jack Mcvicker in the USA.
Like anything else though, try it first because it might not be what you are looking for |
