Taekido?

I am wondering if anyone has heard of Taekido? No I didn't miss spell Tae Kwon-do, Taekido is a separate art, and here's their website: http://www.taekidokai.com

It is currently been taught in Australia, and it is suppose to be a blend of Taekwondo and Aikido... I know a friend who is doing it and I hope to get some info from those who have tried this art and knows their stuff...

Regards.

Sounds similar to Hapkido.

Are your forms unique to the style or do you use already existing forms (the Taekwondo forms maybe?).

I myself is doing Taekwondo ITF at the moment. Last time I went to watch the Taekido grading, I saw that 7th kup or up are doing ITF Taekwondo patterns, but 8th kup has their own pattern. After the grading, they have created their own 7th kup pattern, and it replaced the ITF one. So I guess they were using ITF forms, but slowly developing their own unique one. From what I have seen, coloured belts are very very Taekwondo-ly, if you spar them you would think that they have done Taekwondo.

You say Hapkido I say Aikido

The Korean grappling style known as Hapkido is an offshoot of Aikido.

Just like Tae Kwon Do, the Koreans were taught grappling by the Okinawans.

But just to stay on your subject. Any 'complete' fighting style will include grappling. As you know there are Tae Kwon Do sports schools and Tae Kwon Do fighting schools. One is a sport other is fighting just like Karate because it is based in Karate. The latter will usually include Hapkido to: supplement the fighting style when an opponent gets to close, knocks you on the ground, Lock arms etc.....

Taekido?

Oh, and doesn't Taekido commonly refer to a rolled taco?

Question taekido

Not sure if this is the right place for this or not, but seeing as taekido is taken from taekwondo, i thought it might be the best place for it. Has anyone got any information on this art as there is someone in my work who claims to be heavily involved in taekido in Scotland. No matter how much i search there is no information of taekido even being practiced in Scotland....only in Australia and the US. Can anyone give me anymore information on this? It would be much appreciated.

i really don't know what that is. if that person trains it, why don't you ask him/her what taekido is all about and let us know.

It is probably "Tukido" - which means "the art of skillful combat"

I used to train this style back in the 80s and enjoyed it - I reached black tags before club shut down. It was founded by Hock Aun Teh - Taekwondo 6th Dan and there are still a number of clubs in Scotland.

LOL - I hated that dobok and luckily never had to buy one.

Up until about 1988 or so, it was a traditional white dobok

Then they introduced these........"things"

Luckily my club closed and I was saved from fashion apocalypse....

It WAS/IS a very good style that combines TKD kicking with boxing hand techniques. I enjoyed it and it set me up nicely for my ongoing MA training.

Thanks Smee, you're spot on. I checked the website and the guy from my work is on it, so i've obviously just misheard him when he told me what he trains in

He told me the sparring was full contact, was it that way when you trained?
