Senshido

http://www.senshido.com/

Although the school that teaches this is in Montreal they have certified instructors in the Toronto area. Since I dont have enough money to do my original plan with The Warrior Martial Arts Centre I might just look into this instead. Does anyone know anything about this style/school? A lot of amazing self-defence instructors recommend this place, including Geoff Thompson. What do you guys think?

Re: Senshido

I have had contact with www.senshido.com founder Richard Dimitri and I can say that he's very humble and personable. He came highly recommended like you say by many top notch instructors. I purchased several of his tapes and they were excellent. Probably some of the best I've seen so far (I have several including Tony Blauer's, Sammy Franco's, Geoff Thompson's, Paul Vunak, Matt Thornton, Carl Cestari and more) out of all those, the Senshido tapes are the ones I learned the most from. Check them out, you won't be dissapointed. I have yet to hear any negative comments about Senshido.

Thanks, I've contacted the Senshido representative in Toronto; Eugene Park and I'm thinking about arranging some private lessons. Only downside is that its a little expensive.

cool

Go for the tapes instead and get a training partner to work the drills from there, you may find it cheaper. This is what I did. The tapes are packed with information. I've had to watch them at least 4 or 5 times to assimilate all the info and I learn something new everytime. Rich teaches straight through, no editing it's almost like having him with you in your living room. Also the shredder is unlike anything I've ever seen before, it added a whole new perspective to my fighting ability.

I'm ordering the tapes as soon as my paycheck comes in.

Have you ever trained with Rich and the Senshido crew Rashid? If you have, what was it like? I heard you cant train much more realistictly then they do.

No I haven't

But I've communicated with Rich on many occasions, very down to earth person, quite friendly fellow. His tapes are the most realistic I've seen to date, you can for sure tell that he's very experienced and has been involved in his fair share of fights. He's broken them down unlike anyone I've seen to date. I used to be very impressed by guys like Thornton and Blauer but Rich's materials are in a class of their own. In his rape defense tapes, there's a segment where he and his assistant Helen are recreating a rape scene and she punches Rich in the groin then palm heels him in the face with no equipment! They really give it all they've got. The rape defense tapes are actually some of his best along with the get REAL set. In the get REAL set Rich actually sprays the students with OCS and gets them drunk on vodka to have them perform while intoxicated. Doesn't get much more realistic then that. The part on the "Shredder' alone is worth the price of the tape. Rich also demonstrates a knife attack with a real blade with one of the particpants at the seminar whom he just met, you can actually see him break a sweat.

Senshido is an league of their own. The only thing that I regret is not checking them out earlier. I got thrown off by the name "Senshido", figured it must be another mcdojo until guys like Sammy Franco, Geoff Thompson, Marc Macyoung and several others spoke highly of Rich I finally decided to take a look. Goes to show to never judge a book by its cover.

I have two of Senshido's tapes for sale on ebay, 2 going for about the price of 1. go here

I've only talked to Rich once, and been on his forum and I'd have to say he is humble and has good character.
