biakid
i'm just reading an interview with GM Meliton Geronimo.
it describes sikaran's "trademark spinning kick, the biakid" i quote... "if i am facing my opponent, i can deliver my kick at his back. no other system can kick you in the back from the front position, that is the biakid of sikaran. you see, in karate they can just deliver the kicks from the front or side. with sikaran, i can break your ribs or then the back of your neck even though we are facing each other. the biakid is the trademark of sikaran. it is fatal." i'm fascinated but can't figure this out. little help?

Biakid ~ TKD Turning long
Hello ats,
From what I have heard, TKD recognizes the biakid of sikaran to be the influence that gave them the turning long. I guess if a turning long/ spinning hook kick would be executed up close (with a jump?), it could have the same effect as what was described in your quote. Where did you get that quote? The only text sources I have on sikaran come Nid Anima's book "Filipino Martial Arts" and www.sikaran.com ... |

I do not know much about the sport....I have seen some kids do it in Manila and it is very similar to TKD just a little more viscious.
It used to be an old farmers kicking game. I believe they use alot of hook kicks and toe punting too, which is probably how they would achieve the rib and back of neck shots that you mention. Lots of love Lucy |
