Nice one Adam. I just found the same link.

Pages 2, 3 and 4 show different variants.

Indian punch sword, protrudes out from the front of the fist roughly as long as someones forearm, person holds onto a handle behind the blade, two metal shafts that are attached to the blade and handle run parralel on either side of the forearm which are roped to the welders arm to make for a very firm, sturdy grip. If I find a picture I'll post it. Looks like primarily used for thrust attacks but given our FMA training I could also see sungkites(hooking thrusts/gouges) and some subtle slash work. It may still be used by some Kalaripayatu and Sikh martial systems.
My cousin just picked one up and its his new favorite toy, its wonderful to wear by the way when its roped on, you can see all kinds of wonderfull blade angles. Its also whats used by the video game character Voldo in "soul caliber", which is what had him get it.

Unfortunetly he only has one, I don't know if historicly they were ever used as a pair, probably one on one arm and a shield on the other, but for myself I would like to feel what its like to have one on each arm.
The female lead in the movie Asok(Ashok?) uses a katar in the main battle scene in the end, by the way. Good film with the largest battle sequences in Indian film history. Like braveheart with elephants. The funny thing is, because its a bollywood film, what stands at maybe more is all the elaborate dance scenes

im thinking that it would be used with a sheild but thts only cuz I dont how well u can parry with one, but you could use them paired as long as you can void really well.

BOLLYWOOD!!!!!!! ROFLMAO I watched a musical about bollywood. very amusing

Ther is also a larger version of the katar called i beleive a pundo or somthing like tht i think. its a gountlet with a sword length blade extending straight out.
