At the bottom of every page is this note.

They also claim that the instructor has training in three types of the finest coffee bean...no wait, that's that old coffee advert. I meant three types of ninjutsu.

Perhaps someone who has just decided to go independent after training in a few different X-Kans? Just a casual guess right now.

    RE: Ninja Senshi Ryu

Thing is, after a quick look, they seem up front about what they do. The only real question that might pop up is what are these three styles of Ninjutsu that the founder has trained in?

Perhaps Gyokushin Ryū ,Kumogakure Ryū and Togakure Ryū? If so has he really got enough in depth training in those to be creating a new school from them?

Or is it more likely that what he teaches is just a variation on BBT as a whole?

All in all for the most part they seem honest enough about what they are doing, no worse than alot of other Booj dojo you see out there. What's the fuss?

It's just another guy gone off doing his own thing and using the Booj as a spring board, whilst maybe not totally 100% clear on what they are doing they don't seem to be deliberately misleading people.

I think you're being too literal. They're fairly obviously referring to Ninjutsu in the sense of the X-Kans as a whole. That's pretty standard use of the terminology even if the Koryu-Snobs would prefer everyone to be more accurate.

I'm guessing the instructor hails from a background of Bujinkan, Wayne Roy Dojos and one other but that's guesswork after a seriously cursory look at some sites. I won't have time until later to have a better look and I'm sure someone will have dug around a bit more by then.

I did note in passing a picture of the instructor posing with Ed Lomax on this page, as a well as this comment.

Way ahead of you on that one, it was the very first thing that stood out when I first saw the site :p

Hey it's not snobbery....I just see it as helping out those less fortunate

    JOKE guys :D :D

Seriously though I'm not sure, have I missed some other mention of one of the other X-kans? He seemed all Bujinkan.

....and there's nothing wrong in trying to be accurate with terminology.

Nope, that sword kamae is enough to send me screaming for the eye bleach

There's nothing wrong with being accurate but we have to accept that in general usage, people still use the term "Ninjutsu" to refer to X-Kan training as a whole. I'm not referring to you now but there are serious Koryu-wannabees in the Bujinkan who attempt to use more accurate terms out of a kind of snobbery and look down on anyone who doesn't do the same. There's no real problem with people using the term "Ninjutsu" in this way and I'm especially all for it if it infuriates the Koryu-snobs until smoke comes out of their ears

I think you right about this.

The Instructor, Kaylan Soto was a student of mine for 12mths in 01/02, achieving 6th kyu. I'd speculate that he's then gone to a Bujinkan school or two and possibly a Genbukan dojo, although they only have a small presence in Sydney.

Otherwise he appears to have combined our approach with what he picked up from his Bujinkan studies and is now operating as an 'independant' school.

He made Sydney's largest broadsheet newspaper today with this:

    http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/men-in-black-are-the-white-knights-of-the-night-20100519-vfc5.html

    includes a brief video.

I actually did ask for a change of name but it looks like it won't be happening. Not a problem really :)

Thanks for that extra information Dean (Whittle). You're with the Wayne Roy group then I assume? So with your information and the picture with Ed Lomax and so on, it looks like my earlier guess was heading in the right direction. I'd like to know what ranks Mr Soto holds in Bujinkan and the third organisation then. I'm assuming that 6th Kyu isn't a teaching grade in Wayne Roy's organisation naturally although stranger things have happened in the crazy world of martial arts :hat: So the question is whether he holds some kind of teaching rank in either the Bujinkan or the third organisation. Of course he doesn't actually *need* a teaching rank if he's independent but with him claiming to have a teaching accreditation from the Honbu Dojo, it would be interesting to know what that is.

Yes, I am with Wayne Roy's organisation and no 6th kyu is not a teaching rank.

I'd say Mr Soto has also trained with Dion Kalos (http://www.ninjawarrior.net) because he also has a school in that part of Sydney and Mr Soto is affiliated with Bujinkan Ninpo Dojo (highlighted earlier - http://ninjaspath.com/bujinkan_ninpo_dojo_syd.html) who's Instructor studies under Kalos.

I'd hazard a guess and say the hombu he's referring to is the Bujinkan's. I can't see him training in the Genbukan's giving their strict grading/teaching policies and there's no Jinenekan presence in Sydney.

    With respect
