The video shows Master Wei-Chung Lin, a disciple of the YiZungYue School and the Chief Instructor of the Chinese Taoist Martial Arts Association (ctmaa.com) in Skokie, Illinois, practicing the response (or push) hands exercise with students.

This clip has been posted before, and I believe the general consensus was that it is B.S.

Just more of the same - students overreacting to make their teacher look like the mutt's nuts.

    Thanks for the clip.

Taiji student, the clip shows the old footage of the fajin exercise mixed with what i think is new footage of their 'fee pushing' drill. Their free pushing while not overly competative or intensely faught over doesn't look faked to me at all. Teacher shows some descent enough skills for me.

Anyway, I thought I'd take this opportunity to post a clip from the tai chi club I train at on and off. doing pretty much the same drill what we call 'free pushing'. Instructor comes into the drill at around 0.25.. I think it's a fair call to say that they go a little harder at it.. and everyone has their own ways favoured ways of going about things.

People with good foundation and skill can make things look easy sometimes.. As for the free pushing i think that's what's going on. Those fajin exercise in the clip I believe are meant as a co operative drill/ exercise. It's kinda like tai chi weight training - launching/ projecting a dead weight away/ into a wall (only it's a person).

Do you remember Steve Rowe launching his student back and forth off his wall at the meet we had some time a go - same thing really. Do you assume his student had to go along with it like that back then too? It's just not a case of having an actively resisting partner for those kinds of drills. they are what they are, and you either understand them or you don't, you either see the value in the context of taiji or you don't..

Now if you really believe otherwise I suggest you go over to their forum and call Steve and his students fakers too! ;)

    Hers's a reminder. @ 2.30
