Hi everyone, I am moving to Riyadh,Saudi Arabia within the next couple of weeks for business purposes,I want to start learning BJJ and the only info I found is this: http://www.saudibjj.com/ And this is the instructor: http://onthemat.com/school_database.php?schoolid=12600 I have e-mailed them twice and still got no answer.Their phone doesn't even ring.Anyone has any idea about this place or the instructor? By the way,I have trained MuayThai before,I haven't done it for 4 years now,I'm out of shape and 33 years old.Is it too late for BJJ? Thanks in advance for any answers and help.
I'm a long time ex-pat who worked overseas for many years and have a few friends who work with Saudi Aramco. I know there are at least a few BJJ programs within a couple of their camps (compounds). If you're with Aramco, please check with coworkers once you arrive. There are a lot of things that go on that may be difficult to find till you get there. Check with some of the forums with the company your going to be working with also if they are available.
Thank you very much for the info.I don't work for Aramco but I can definetely get in touch with people there.I will do my best to find BJJ classes but I'm really hoping that a proper dojo will open so that I won't have to go to compunds to practice. I'll let you know.Thank you again.
As per FAQ: My favourite example when it comes to the "am I too old" question is this guy. He started training at RGA when in his eighties, earning his blue belt in 2007. So while it's a cliche, it really never is too late to start. There's also a good thread with discussion of training a bit later in life (especially how to cope with injury, arthritis etc) here. You could also check out the Roy Harris instructional BJJ Over 40.

Never Too Old The "issue" of age comes up a lot. As a 43 year-old woman studying 8 months now at a competitive school in Prague, CZ, I hear many guys complaining about being 30+. We all age differently. One recommendation: Cross training yoga helps build tendon strength & flexibility that helps prevents injury. But, bottom-line, we're all responsible for how we train. For example, it can be more dangerous sparring with white belts, because they lack the control of advanced players & a strong guy with something to prove can cause energy fast. That's where tapping comes in. I believe the maker of Red Belt, David Mamet, started BJJ in his 40s. There are other examples. BJJ is too much fun (and important) not to try, and I only wish I had started in my 30s!
Ottoman Turk, I know I'm late to this forum however I hope your having a good time in Saudi Arabia. Just wanted to correct your post in regards to Montiese Peterson. Art martial club in Madina KSA ? Salem I am a french citizen just arrived in Madina for the work (3 years contract). I dont want to stop martial art during a such long period, that is why I would like to know if there are some martial art club in this city.
