The Pushup Challenge

I have been viewing the posts for some time now and I came across the pushup challenge. Jeff Burger challenged people to have profound changes to their 1 set best in pushups within the period of 2-3 months (verify if wrong).
He also said that whoever did achieve the set goal will be told the method he (Jeff Burger again correct me if I am wrong) used to gain the endurance to do those repetitions. Unfortunately, some people are apparently getting hurt experimenting with methods to achieve this number.
I would like to start another pushup challenge. But this is to determine the efficiency of a method. And yes I will state the method:

Do your personal 1 set best then divide the number you have one by three. This will be the number of repetitions you will do in 1 set of three sets of this particular exercise. Rest 1 minute between sets. After 3 days increase the number of reps in each set (it does not matter if you can only add 1, what matters is that you added any). 3 days after that try decreasing the rest period to 30 seconds. 3 days after that increase the number of reps in each set again, but the rest period must be below a minute (though not necessarily 30 seconds). Repeat the cycle again. After a month try keeping the rest period to thirty seconds or less.

The target limit is 2 months (about 60 days) and this should be done everyday. Please post your results. If you have been doing any weight training that is specific to this exercise like bench presses), please post that too.

hmm, I think you posted a method something like that in a thread a week or so ago.

I have only been doing 3 sets of 1/3 of my maximum # of reps with 60 secs. rest between each set and I've doubled the amount of pushups I can do in a week or so.

~10 -> ~20.

Actually, you got the other push up challenge wrong.

The setup was that you commit to the challenge and then he gives you the method for it. Not that you find a method, and then he goes "hey, I've got a better one".

People are getting hurt not from experimenting, but because of either bad form in their pushups or overtraining, like performing other exercises along with the pushup challenge.

I like the idea of only doing 1/3 of my ability Sounds like a potential New Year's Resolution, which gives me an idea for a thread...

Rgds,
David

To Infesticon: Yes I did, and congrats! When I was first made to do this by my PE coach way before, I did not show improvement until 2 weeks (I was very lazy). The post I made on some threads was very generalized hence, the recounting of the cycle of rest periods and reps in each set.

To DJHalliB: I stand corrected! And to correct you back, people do get injured from experimenting. Especially if they do not have the required strength for a task.

To David: Doing 1/3 of your ability for 1 set gives you a logical progression and room to increase the reps you can do in 1 set. Regular pushups are tax endurance, and the method is basically meant for the body to be able to cope with such tress.

To all people: I forgot to mention that this exercise (all the three sets) shouldn't be as long as 10 minutes (depends on the number you can do). This also should be done only once a day, preferrably long before you do any other training (like weight training). Thank you very much for your posts
