Makes your wonder about the employee screening methods they use, like Disneyland is their hunting ground http://www.local6.com/news/10971159/detail.html Disney Cast Member Arrested In Child-Porn Case Officers Picked Up Wendland At Theme Park. A Walt Disney World cast member who plays Beast from "Beauty and the Beast" was arrested Thursday on 51 counts of child pornography, according to Local 6 News. Orange County sheriff's deputies arrested Matthew Wendland, 20, after receiving a tip from one of his roommates at Camden World apartments near the Disney World property. Authorities picked up Wendland at his work at Disney, where he was dressed as the Beast from Walt Disney World. Officers then went to his home. 'He gave us consent to search his apartment," Orange County Sheriff's Sgt. Rick Mankewich said. "In his bedroom, in his apartment we located several images of young children posed in pornographic positions." "(They) found explicit photos of children ages 3 and up," Local 6's Charnel Wright said. "It was shocking, even to investigators." "It is obviously concerning for anyone downloading pictures like this," Mankewich said. "I've viewed the pictures myself and it is extremely disturbing looking at these." The 20-year-old did not have a criminal background. "This guy doesn't have a criminal history," Mankewich said. "You can do all of the check you want and it is not going to show anything. We just lucked out that somebody saw these images in his bedroom, which is locked, and was able to get to us." Authorities believe Wendland downloaded the images and did not take them himself. A Disney official said Wendland has been suspended without pay. Wendland also plays the character Goofy at Walt Disney World.
Having worked at WDW, I am amazed that this has not happened sooner. You would be surprised at who is under one of those Character Costumes. More often then not, Goofy, Pluto, and other "Male" Characters are women. There are some female characters that are mainly men in costume.
Are Disney supposed to check all their employees' computers? The article said that he did not have a criminal background, so I don't really see what more they could have done.
The thing with criminal record checks, say like the CRB clearance system in the UK only picks up on people who have criminal records .It doesn't pick up on people who haven't been caught yet but may be committing crimes.
Hmmm! About that... I went to work for Disney after leaving the Police Force and I was not impressed by the background check. Now, I did not dig very deep but I do watch who is checking up on me and, to my knowledge, I did not have a criminal history check run. I do know that they hired someone that was a wanted. Of course, that person was quickly relieved of their duties when someone made a local Sheriff's deputy aware of the fact...
You would think it would be essential, getting clearance for anyone working with children,as is usually the case over here, although there have been flaws in this system with paedophiles ending up working in schools etc. Even if the check is run and the person is a peadophile,it wont be picked up on if they haven't been charged. P.S Do you ever post on any actual MA forums Acrux?
If we do that, we'd open a right can of worms.. You'd have to be limited to one inappropriate flirt with a mod a week for a start.
and before you know it they'll start trying to cut down on the BBQ's... and then where will we be?!?!?
I have to say I think I've been pretty restrained lately... especially considering I saw your Myspace page for the first time a couple of weeks ago and realized you're actually kinda hot
