Hey everyone,
I've had many people that have asked me for information and video of Black Tiger. There has not been much on the internet about Black Tiger as far as information or video clips. But we are changing all of that at the present time. Here's a link to a basic Black Tiger form.Infact it is the first form taught in Black Tiger. It is called Hak Fu Chin Jhong (Black Tiger Front Dummy) form.It is a Dummy form as the name implies. This is not how it's usually done.It has been done loosely to show the movements. There is usually alot more power and crisp technique. But it will show you a little of the techniques. We've cut the video so it does'nt show the entire form.Sorry but there are people out there that like to steal forms and techniques and then claim them as their own. I hope you enjoy the little clip.Again it is done very loose as to show some of the techniques. It is pretty much just a walk through. Please download the clip it's a free site so it does'nt have the bandwidth for everyone to watch the clip. Sil Lum Hak Fu Muhn Jhong I hope everyone enjoys the clip? Remember this is not the way it's usually done. It's a walk through to show the techniques. It's done at 1/4 of it's normal speed. jeff

Nice.
A bit longer than my first form but it seems like it covers all the basics and a bit more. And would look pretty cool faster aswel. Could i ask.Is the hands behind back thing to improve balance?Or is it for some other reason? |

Well during the kicks it's used to give better balance.Meaning that by doing it with your arms behind you like that it forces you to develope better balance. On the part where you see him twist with the waist and then turn. Those are shoulder smashes.
Well that's actually only half of the form lol.We cut alot of it out during the editing of the clip. The first three forms in Black Tiger are dummy forms. This is the only one done without a dummy. So you get alot of the basics in the first three forms. Your first six months to a yr are spent working a proper horse stance.Although it's not showed in the clip. The entire first half of the form is done in a deep horse stance. jeff

Katrina,
Well we are putting info about Black Tiger on the web to kinda bring it to the public.Black Tiger has always been a rare style not taught to the mainstream.Black Tiger dates back to the "Ten Tigers Of Canton" during the Qing era.Soo Hak Fu created Black Tiger he was one of the "Ten Tigers Of Canton" along with Wong Kei Yin The father of the famous Hung Gar Master Wong Fei Hung.Black Tiger is a sister art of Hung Gar. Soo Hak Fu was a Tiger Claw Master.Infact Wong Fei Hung himself learned Black Tiger. The reason we are doing this is one Black Tiger like i've said has always been rare even in China. Most Black Tiger Masters have chosen to take Black Tiger to the grave with them.If this trend was to continue then within the next 30-40 yrs.Black Tiger could be lost forever. We don't want this rare style to be lost like many rare kung fu styles over the yrs. So we are putting info up on the internet to help spread info about Black Tiger. Also we are starting to open up to teaching the general public. To answer you question about putting that video up on the internet.Well that is a very basic form.Infact that is the first form taught. So why i did have thoughts of putting it on the internet.I edited it so that you see only half of the form. The entire form is much longer than that. jeff

i see your reasoning, and agree with it.
i do understand how it is with rare styles, i myself am most fortunate to be a student of Li Gar kung fu, being based upon leopard, whose founder was also one of the Ten Tigers of Canton. i see it as both an advantage and disadvantage for various reasons to be doing one of the more rare forms, but it does sadden me to think of such knowlegde being lost. what are Black Tiger's strengths? if you don't mind me asking that is. is it a more strength oriented style?

Katrina,
It's funny that you mention you do Li Gar.One is i've never talked to anyone that has learned or is learning Li Gar.The other is i'm working on another clip to post on the site. It's one of our staff forms and it comes from Li Gar haha lol How interesting! Well Black Tiger unlike most Tiger styles is more about speed than power.Although we use the Tiger Claw we don't focous on it as much as other Tiger styles. We use alot of different animal techniques within Black Tiger. As you can see in that clip there are elements of snake, crane, leopard, and tiger. What you do not see is the dragon techniques that were used. They were cut out during the editing of that clip. Although Black Tiger is more about speed than strength. We do have alot of the strength training that goes with tiger styles. We use about three different dummies in Black Tiger. We also have the iron arms and low stances like Hung Gar.Like Hung Gar we also have an Iron Wire set.Black Tiger is famous for two things. It's very hard training and the 9 armed Grinder Dummy. It's made of concrete with arms and legs made of metal. The arms rotate so the harder you hit the Grinder Dummy. Then the harder it hits you back. Here's a pic of a smaller version of the Grinder Dummy. jeff

thanks for that information, i thought i recognised some of the moves in the video clip. where is your school based? as i shall be doing some travelling next year, it would be great if it was somewhere near where i was going.
that dummy sounds rather lethal. and looks it ! but then again, you only get out of training what you put in.

Well my school is in the South Miami area of Miami,Florida. Are you planning on visiting Miami,Florida?
The only other places you would be able to attend a Black Tiger school is in Canada and Hong Kong.It would be great to have you as a guest if you are in this part of the world.Or if you are in one of those other countries i could arrange for you to meet the sifu's of those schools. Yeah the Grinder Dummy is no joke. But like you've said. You only get out what you put into your training. jeff

Hey no problem Katrina.
Just let me know. I had a friend that used to work for the cruiseline. He loved it alot.He says that you get to save sooo much money because they pretty much supply all you need food and a place to stay for free. The only problem he had was being away from his family and friends so much.He was in and out so fast most times he did'nt have time to always see his family. But he traveled all over the world and met alot of people. I'm supposed to go to Hong Kong myself in the future with my sifu.We are creating an International Black Tiger Assocation so we need to meet with others in Hong Kong. jeff

I'm trying to put that Lee Gar Pole form up on the website now so you can take a look at it.
How long have you been learning Lee Gar? jeff

ummmm, i don't know, you see i really don't keep track of training, i just do it.
i think my Sifu told me that i've been doing Li Gar for about 4-5 months, maybe more. training and lessons have been modified now though since we know i am definitly leaving in Feb, my Sifu changed the emphasis of lessons so i can learn stuff that can be used in very close quater conditions which would be more applicable onboard a ship. i'll have a look at the pole form as soon as its up, its sounds like alot of work is going into the website, and its paying off too. what is going to be the overal aim of the International Black Tiger Association?

what is going to be the overal aim of the International Black Tiger Association?
Well the aim of the Assocation is to do alot of things really.
There are different schools of Black Tiger and many questions surrounding them. But there are also alot of fakes out there trying to lure people in with lies and made up techniques and lineages. What we are going to do for our lineage is set up a website that list all the people that are qualified to teach Sil Lum Hak Fu Muhn (Shaolin Black Tiger). And also list all the members in the assocation and plus info and other stuff. Plus we want to set a standard for the way it's taught and how it will be taught. jeff
