Let's blow up the planet!

Let's see how to destroy the world

Clearly some assumptions will have to be made to simplify the calculation.

How do we consider the planet "destroyed"?

The method of destroying the planet will be by matter/antimatter combination, likely occurring at the centre of the earth. The matter and antimatter pellets will be of superdense neutronium injected into the earth's crust and oscillating about the planet's centre until gravity forces them together. The antimatter pellet would form an ambiplasma around itself on contact with the matter inside the earth and will not react until reaching that null point of the oscillation.

So how much matter and antimatter would we need?

The assumption for the energy required to "destroy" the planet shall be equal to the amount of energy required to put the entire mass of the earth into orbit about itself i.e. reach escape velocity.

Escape velocity is approximately 11100 m/s

    Therefore by KE= 1/2 * mv^2

    = (6 x 10^24 x 11100^2)/2

    = 3.7 x 10^32 J

    Now from

    E = mc^2

    The energy from 1 kg of matter/antimatter annihilation = 1 x (3 x 10^8 )^2

    = 9 x 10^16 J

    Therefore the mass of annihilated matter required to destroy the planet = (3.7 x 10^32) / (9 x 10^16)

    = 4.1 x 10^16 kg

    or 41,000,000 Megatons

Given the density of Neutronium is approximately 4 * 10 ^ 17 kg/m^3, the pellets would each be roughly a tenth of a cubic metre in volume.

    i.e. a cube approx. 46 cm on a side.

This sounds like a drunken plan, it seems like a good idea at the time, but afterwards you begin to spot the flaws.

I hear anti-matter in on sale this week at K-Mart.

Dont bother, were doing a pretty good job ruining the planet anyway. :bang:
