i think he probably meant muay boran and muay thai, or military muay thai (lerdrit) and sport muay thai.

as for the differences, probably some techniques in military muay thai are not allowed in sport...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muay_Thai

this is a decent article.

Yes the thai govt has a somewhat different form for military, and from what i've heard older -perhaps more to the original form of the art

ThaiYuth

The following information is snipped from this website: http://members.aol.com/thaiboxing2000/muay.html
I find this website a GREAT source of info on the history and practice of muay thai and it's original roots.

This is a rare glimpse at the ancient Thai Fighting System known as Thaiyuth. Thaiyuth is the old style which includes Muay Thai, Weaponry (Krabi-Krabong), and Close Quarter Combat which includes take-downs as shown in the picture above. Recognized by the Royal Court, Thaiyuth practitioners contend that today's Muay Thai Boxers (sport version) have lost many of the ranges and deadly strikes that were once effective as tested on the ancient battlefields. Thaiyuth is not a new trend, but a highly effective system practiced by a chosen few and by men who have guarded the Kings of Thailand since the ancient days. One can see techniques from Lerdrit, Lim Long, and other old styles displayed by Thaiyuth practitioners. Anyone who's ever fought in a Muay Thai match knows that the Thai system is a dead serious system. Let's just say that Thaiyuth techniques are meant to be even more serious than sport Muay Thai. Sport Muay Thai today is only one subset of the power of the Old Style. Instead of Thaiyuth (meaning Thai skills), it is also referred to as Pahuyuth (multi skills). Click here for more information on the Old Style of Thai Fighting at http://www.pahuyuth.de

Just a correction on the spelling. It's LingLOm, meaning wind monkey. Military muaythai is a more closely guarded art. I assume that was to protect against citizen uprising, or from common villagers resisting military control. Muay Boran on the other hand is simply ancient muaythai. Col. Amnart probably knows military muaythai very well.

Colonel Amnat has released two DVD's of Ancient Bareknuckle MuayThai techniques.

#1: Foundation & Strategy http://ancientmuay.com
#2: Structure: http://bareknucklemuay.com

Both of these DVD's give you a real look at sport MuayThai's roots. You can actually see the differences between the bareknuckle fighting and the modern sport. At the same time, you also see just how "true" to the original bareknuckle arts that sport MuayThai still is. There are variances in application, but you can still see that much of the fighting technique is still retained. Both DVD's are real eye-openers!!!
