Pig Wrestling - A martial art?

http://www.pinedaleonline.com/news/2...PigWrestli.htm

Is pig wrestling considered a martial art? It's competitive and skillful and works on a similar principle to submission fighting (i.e. placing your opponent in an inescapable position). The only difference is that it is inter-species.

So do people consider pig wrestling to be a valid martial art? Or does the inter-species nature of the conflict invalidate it as a martial art?

If so, how about goose-beating, hedgehog-thrashing and lemur-mauling? Are these also given the cold shoulder by the martial arts community?

(Obviously, as a non-human animal, this topic is of great interest to me)

Pfft. In a streetfight, if the pig went to the ground, guys would jump out with frying pans, cooking lard, and scrambled eggs. Where would submission grappling get him then?!

Interesting question.

I would say no, because to me a martial art is about honing self defense or combat skills to a high degree.

There is no self defense or combat skill development here, just learning to catch a pig.

I think a snake might have a natural advantage if the fight went to the ground.

A moose grappling with a pig. That would be something to see eh? Since neither have thumbs I'd have to go with a tie...

Why did you even ask this question? you are living proof that inter-species (ugh) conflict can be considered a martial art? Right?
